Gisteren schoof de Vlaamse regering in de begrotingsaanpassing 100 miljoen euro aan toekomstige Oosterweelfacturen naar 2026. Honderd miljoen. Ze deden het met het air van mensen die iets moedigs en verantwoordelijks doen. 100 miljoen. Op een project dat ondertussen 13,6 miljard euro kost. Bouwkosten alleen al 10,1 miljard. Een PFAS-sanering die 1,65 miljard extra heeft opgeslokt. Een financieringstekort van minstens 2,25 miljard volgens het Rekenhof. En een achtergestelde lening met 5% rente die als je het laat sneeuwballen tegen 2083 kan uitgroeien tot 27 miljard euro. En dan durven ze met een ernstig gezicht 100 miljoen naar voren te schuiven alsof het een serieuze maatregel is. Dit is geen bestuur. Dit is boekhoudkundige goochelarij van het laagste niveau. De regering houdt Oosterweel bewust buiten de gewone begroting via Lantis en tol-trucs, zodat het officiële tekort er nog redelijk uitziet. Terwijl het Rekenhof al maandenlang met rood licht zwaait: de tolinkomsten volstaan niet, de verkeersvolumes zijn te optimistisch, en de echte factuur komt bij onze kleinkinderen terecht. Het is bijna beledigend hoe ze ons voor dom verkopen. Oosterweel is intussen het schoolvoorbeeld van hoe deze Vlaamse regering met publieke centen omgaat: kosten laten exploderen, risico’s externaliseren, waarschuwingen negeren en de rekening systematisch doorschuiven naar later. En terwijl ze ons uitleggen dat 100 miljoen ‘verantwoord beleid’ is, laten diezelfde ministers zich intussen als koningen rondrijden met chauffeurs, bedienen door koks en vullen ze hun royale onkostenvergoedingen zonder verpinken aan. 100 miljoen. Ik herhaal het nog eens, omdat het zo belachelijk is. Op 13,6 miljard is dat 0,7%. Dat is geen besparing, dat is een sneer naar elke Vlaming die de factuur straks mag ophoesten. Dit project is geen “project van de eeuw” meer. Het is een financiële tijdbom die ze met veel bravoure hebben gelegd en waar ze nu met een glimlach naast blijven staan. Deze regering heeft geen probleem met miljarden uitgeven. Ze heeft alleen een probleem met verantwoordelijkheid nemen voor die miljarden. En zolang wij dat blijven pikken, blijven ze ermee wegkomen.

Wie maakt die mensen hun kop zot? Snap dit echt met alle goede wil van de wereld niet….

Dit blijft toch een zeer bizar land. Parlementsleden die krijgen 2649,88 € euro per maand als cash onkostenvergoeding. Volledig onbelast. Maar voor werknemers die maaltijdcheques krijgen, wat je ook perfect als een onkostenvergoeding zou kunnen beschouwen, kan dat blijkbaar alleen maar met een speciaal opgezet peperduur chequesysteem. Stop die onzin en laat werkgevers hun werknemers elke maand 200 euro “forfaitaire onkostenvergoeding” betalen en klaar. De ecocheques? Noem dat vanaf nu een forfaitaire klimaataanpassingsvergoeding en betaal dat cash en onbelast en klaar. Nog beter is de lasten op arbeid te verlagen maar dat zal niet voor de eerste 10 jaar zijn vrees ik…

Ook in 2022 werd beweerd dat de overheid verdient aan hogere energieprijzen. Ik heb toen becijferd dat in de praktijk het tegendeel geldt. Bij de huidige prijsschok komt dat neer op een verlies van meerdere miljarden... 👇

Waarschijnlijk de grootste nederlaag uit mijn politiek bestaan. De Vlaamse partijen Groen, N-VA, CD&V en Vooruit hebben zonet een nieuwe belasting op verwarming, energie en autorijden van 650 euro (!) per huishouden, per jaar goedgekeurd. Dat is het ETS2-systeem. We hadden een keuze vandaag deze Europese klimaatwaanzin NIET om te zetten in Vlaanderen. Dat werd ook beloofd door oa. @valerievanpeel en @MDiependaele. Toch kozen zij en de klassieke partijen er weer maar eens voor het toch WEL te doen. Niet te vatten. Aardgas plus 16 procent. Stookolie plus 21 procent. Diesel en benzine plus 10 procent. De TV-camera's waren natuurlijk al lang weg voor het debat en de stemming. Je gaat hier bijna niets over lezen. Wel zal de komende weken weer vrolijk verteld worden in de media dat de hoge energieprijzen "de schuld zijn van Trump". Mensen zijn niet dom. Mensen worden hier vooral heel kwaad van. Geef hen eens ongelijk.

Please form an orderly queue and bring: • Ironclad documents proving my family personally enslaved you (bonus points if they include my great-great-grandpa’s signature and a Polaroid). • Your birth certificate proving you were born before Britain abolished slavery on 1 August 1834. • Proof you’re still alive (the gift can only be claimed in person, no ghosts, no estates, no “my ancestor told me so”). Oh, and while you’re at it, maybe swing by the local cemetery with a shovel. I’m sure those poor souls buried since the 1800s would appreciate being dug up for their cheque. They’ve waited long enough, right? Look, if we’re doing “reparations” for historical slavery, let’s do it properly: only to the actual victims. Not their great-great-great-grandchildren who were born free in the 20th or 21st century, sipping oat milk lattes while tweeting about “trauma.” This isn’t justice, it’s a cosmic-level grift. It’s like demanding the Roman Empire pay for the roads they built because some distant ancestor got conquered by Caesar. Or billing modern Italians for every Gaul who got turned into a slave 2,000 years ago. Newsflash: No living person in Britain today was a slave under British law, and no living person in Britain today owned slaves under British law. The people who suffered are dead. The people who profited are dead. Their descendants, Black, White, Asian, mixed, whatever had zero say in it. Chasing “reparations” from random taxpayers (including the descendants of abolitionists, coal miners, and people who arrived after 1834) isn’t healing historical wounds. It’s creating new ones while opening the most hilarious Pandora’s box in human history: • Should Ireland demand reparations from Britain for the Potato Famine? • Should Britain demand reparations from Denmark for the Viking slave raids? • Should Italians bill Mongols for the sack of Baghdad? • Should every African nation start invoicing each other for the centuries of tribal warfare and slave-trading that predated (and supplied) the transatlantic trade? Where does the grievance chain end? 1066? The Bronze Age? Lucy the Australopithecus getting stiffed on her cave rent? Slavery was a universal human horror, practised by every civilisation from the Egyptians to the Aztecs to the Arabs to the Africans themselves (who sold millions into the trade). Britain didn’t invent it. Britain ended it, at massive cost, with the Royal Navy spending decades hunting slave ships while other empires kept right on going. Demanding cash from people who never owned slaves, to give to people who were never slaves, isn’t “reparations.” It’s retroactive time-travel cosplay with other people’s money. It’s the ultimate participation trophy for historical victimhood: “My ancestor suffered, therefore I deserve a payout… even though I live in a free society with more opportunity than 99.9% of humans who ever lived.” If you want actual justice, how about this radical idea: Stop obsessing over who owes whom from 200 years ago, and start judging people by what they do today. Work hard. Build. Create. Don’t inherit grievances like their family heirlooms. The desire for slavery reparations isn’t righteous anger. It’s lazy, entitled, historically illiterate greed dressed up as moral superiority, demanding a lottery win for a suffering you never endured, from people who never caused it.
