Pe 27 iunie 1941 începea Pogromul de la Iași, una dintre cele mai paginile întunecate din istoria noastră. Peste 13.000 de evrei români au fost uciși în oraș sau în „trenurile morții". Cetățeni români, uciși de un regim românesc pe care mulți îl eroizează chiar și astăzi falsificând istoria. Adevărul nu se ocolește ci se asumă iar România a început să şi-l asume. Despre asta am discutat cu Rabinul @StateSEAS, Ambasadorul Rabbi Yehuda Kaploun, trimisul special al Preşedintelui Trump pentru combaterea antisemitismului, în vizita sa anul acesta la Ministerul Afacerilor Externe. Am discutat despre înțeleciunea lui Elie Wiesel şi moştenirii sale intelectuale şi în România şi în SUA, despre predarea istoriei Holocaustului în școli și despre planurile pentru Muzeul Național de Istorie a Evreilor și al Holocaustului. I-am arătat documente din arhivele diplomației române, mărturii ale acelor ani, păstrate aici, la MAE. Printre ele, gestul unor diplomați români care s-au opus deciziei de a marca pașapoartele evreilor și care au ajutat mulți oameni să fie salvați la timp din calea exterminării. Şi în cele mai negre episoade ale istoriei au existat eroi. Avem un dialog deschis cu Muzeul Holocaustului din Washington pentru găzduirea în România a unor exponate pe durata renovării Muzeului. O componentă a colaborării este digitalizărea arhivelor diplomatice, care pot purta aceste mărturii către generațiile care nu vor mai apuca să audă, viu, poveștile spuse de supraviețuitori, arhive are au un rol important deja în memoria familiilor de evrei plecați din România în SUA şi modul în care generațiile de acum descoperă în România istoria părinților sau a bunicilor, de aceea am discutat şi despre sincronizarea sistemelor de pensii între cele două țări. Datoria noastră e să nu uităm și să nu îngăduim ca istoria să se repete.

When people and institutions fan the flames of hatred, it is no wonder Canada's Jewish community is unsafe. The federally funded Canadian Museum for Human Rights has an obligation to tell the full story. In the wake of Canada's decision to replace an antisemitism envoy position with a “rights, equality and inclusion” council, this one-sided exhibit will fuel antisemitism and proves that the Canadian government is failing to lower the temperature.
