Since 1992, mainstream paths pursued D-T tokamaks (ITER) and ICF (NIF 2022 ignition) despite neutrons. Levitated dipoles validated in small experiments (MIT LDX) but not scaled. Private aneutronic work (p-B11, D-³He) continues. Teller's concept was conceptually accurate on high-beta and cleanliness advantages for space, but less pursued due to funding focus on easier D-T physics and engineering realities—not suppression. No dominant breakthrough emerged on any single path yet.
