Open letters from for profit corporations and their members are always virtue signaling. This is the literal definition of virtue signaling. The goal of the letter is to signal virtue. And nothing else, since no game is resolved, no incentives are aligned and nothing is changed.

Software factories are worthless. The entire idea of a factory is to make a lot of something as cheap as possible. That whole idea, doesn’t make sense, because code already costs near zero to copy, and increasingly towards zero to create. The only reason factories exist is because artisan crafter can’t compete up with the volume of creating thousands But we can keep up with software. Just turn on more AI.

It's amusing that people think AI is going to eat the majority of technical roles. Technical roles will just go a level (or several) up the stack. Someone juggling function calls and for loops previously will now be juggling agents and routers, or larger/complex systems of some sort. Doing anything like that *well* is a "technical" thing. Paying attention to details. Optimizing. Being willing to dig into the edges. Finding where to push. It's all the same thing. Tldr: nothing fundamentally changes about the economy in a truly novel way until actual ASI (which is still not even on the horizon yet imo). Tldr2: doomers are wrong. Again.
