#FuelPriceHike by Modi Govt is due to global Oil shock Central Excise is only small part of Pump prices Final price=Central Excise+ 📌Dealer Commission 📌Distributor Margin 📌State VAT Wrong to allege Petrol/Diesel price hikes benefit Central Govt disproportionately..they dont
Sanju Verma@Sanju_Verma_

Yes,there have been 3 Fuel price hikes But why do Rahul Gandhi/his retainers forget,in India overall hike is still 5%..it is 22-89% in large parts of globe Also,CNG price is 81/kg..globally it is 450/kg 2004-2014 Petrol price rose 114%👎 From 2014-26,it is 35% under Modi Govt

@Sanju_Verma_ Central govt should allow petroleum prices be dictated by market dynamics. Let those be reduced when crude prices go down. If they can increase taxes during crude price downturn, they should reduce taxes during crude price upsurge.

Why not start by cutting VAT on Fuel in Karnataka? Will you? As for retail #Inflation,it is 3.48% now under PM Modi..it was 12%+in 2012 under inept Congress Current Account Deficit hit 6.7% in 2012..it is 0.7% now Not to speak of Oil Bonds that had to be paid off by Modi Govt

BJP gave inflation to the nation. Congress stands with the people through guarantees. The Central Government has increased petrol and diesel prices for the fourth time in just 11 days, pushing an unbearable burden onto ordinary citizens. While crude oil prices remain low globally, the Centre continues to loot people through excessive fuel taxes and has collected nearly ₹43 lakh crore from petrol and diesel over the last 12 years. LPG cylinder prices and essential commodity rates are also skyrocketing, making life difficult for middle class families, workers and small businesses. Today, along with AICC General Secretary Shri @rssurjewala and Chief Minister Shri @siddaramaiah, we strongly condemned this anti-people price rise at a joint press conference in KPCC. While the BJP gives the nation inflation and hardship, Congress stands with people through guarantee schemes that protect every household. We will launch massive protests across Karnataka on May 30 against the Centre’s continuous assault on common citizens. #PriceHike | #Petrol

Most service providers on UC quote high charges & give their personal number to offer the service outside UC app. Same experience with Uber & Rapido on cab hire. Something aggregator app companies to think of. In Singapore, cab owners strictly work through Grab. Why are we like this?

Last week, had an Urban Company Carpenter visit our house to perform the following repairs. Kitchen cabinets • 20-30 hinges • 2-3 channels The young bloke, maybe GenZ, quoted ₹5000 and said he will fix the entire kitchen. My wife said it's too much, as there is no new installation work and it's mostly fixing and tightening. He said then please call somebody else, as he will not do it below this price. We let him go as we had no urgency to fix this. Then, we asked for a local Carpenter reference in our RWA groups and got one. Today, the local Carpenter came. A slightly aged man but with decades of experience. He saw the same work and quoted just ₹800. I was amazed!!! Apart from the kitchen work, carpenter uncle also fixed a bunch of our door handles at the same cost. I will definitely not call Urban Company professionals like carpenter, plumber, electrician for any multiple odd jobs going forward. Your friendly local neighbourhood professional will cost you a fraction! PS: This single experience has completely negated my positive view on UC as an investment idea as well.

@sahilbhadviya That's the pain. Petrol & Diesel price will not go down. Taxes will increase. Benefits don't pass down but costs do.

4th price hike within 2 weeks! Why can't they increase it in one go? Do they think people won't notice it? The problem is not just with price hike. The problem is - Even if Crude falls to 70$, petrol/diesel prices won't go down now.

@spinesurgeon If 4.5X is not enough, how many times is enough? There's no upper limit then. Govt has a mandate on per km rate. Apps have surge pricing mechanism. Captains see what is higher and demand that. They are inconsistent in their approach.

100 is for fuel What about tyre and other costs like service What about insurance What about the cost of buying the car What about driver salary
Dipak Chavan 🇮🇳@dipakdmc

@Paritolkks I travel to office daily using Rapido. I can relate to this experience every day. Distance to office is 20 km. 99% cabs here run of CNG. So it's typical 1 kg consumption or approx ₹ 100 cost. They charge me ₹ 400-450. That's 4.5X profit. But they still cry & demand extra.

@HelleLyngSvends Agree PM can & should have press conferences but his ministers do. PM having press conferences is not a measure of good or bad democracy. PM gets abused everyday by some or the other group. He never indulges in arguments on those. His silence is not his weakness. That's the way he works while ministers and secretaries interface press. He addresses the nation when it matters. That works.

Asking my prime minister Jonas Gahr Støre about why Norway refers to India as a democracy when the Indian PM has not had a press conference in 12 years at home. Is not a free press important to democracy anymore? Støre points to India holding elections. He does acknowledge differences in press culture, but also points to Indias large population.

@dipakdmc @Paritolkks Yes. True. The wear and tear should be borne by the government. In fact, they should charge customers only CNG costs and probably give chilled water or juice during travel.

Booked a Rapido. Driver called: “Bhaiya, extra dena hoga.” Booked an Uber: “Bhaiya, fare bahut kam hai.” Then why did you accept the ride? Booked an Ola: Driver confirmed, then cancelled after 5 minutes. The entire taxi aggregator system in India is a mess. There is not a single app that feels customer-centric. Half the cars are poorly maintained, drivers keep negotiating outside the app, and cancellations are normalised. Once someone travels to places like Dubai or parts of Southeast Asia, they realise how far behind our basic service standards are.

Interestingly: US's 39Tr$ debt is now a problem for the world, including India. [** And, not that much for the US] Here is an explainer:- 1) US has 39Tr$ plus debt. This debt can be repaid or deflated away. If there is more inflation on the world: the buying power of FIAT currencies goes down. Eg. what you can buy with 100Rs today will be far worth less what you'd be able to do by next year. What this does is: that this "deflates" the value of the debt as well. While 39Tr$ debt stays on paper. The real value keeps going down. Why? inflation 2) Now, inflation has always been a problem for governments to manage. Make the prices to high= people complain. But, here is an interesting fact. In the US 60% people have exposure to stocks. 3) Inflation = causes asset prices (including stock prices) to go up. So yes, while the US prices would go up. People could offset this against the equity/stocks that they hold. True: that most of these stocks are owned by the top quartile. But, if US expands its social security for the bottom quartile-- they can justify inflation domestically. *** Basically in Bay Area, you would find some folks making 500K USD/year. They pay 40% tax, 7-10K$ month in just rents. They don't complain. Why? salaries/investments >> expenses. Good chance that some version of this plays out across the whole US. And, the US successfully exports its inflation to other parts of the world.

@Tejasvi_Surya I do support delimitation but making public representatives accountable to their promises is the real challenge. We need a legislation for that.

One of the most important outcomes of delimitation would have been correcting India’s deeply flawed urban representation. Since 1971, India has transformed. We have urbanised rapidly. Our cities now drive jobs, growth, innovation and aspirations. But our Parliament and State Assemblies still do not adequately reflect urban India. This is why our cities lack the political capital needed to improve quality of life, public transport, housing, infrastructure and livability. By stalling delimitation, the Opposition has not only done a disservice to women and to the interests of southern India. It has also done a grave disservice to millions of Indians living in our cities. Weak urban representation means weaker cities. Weaker cities mean poorer livability, slower growth and lost opportunities for India.
The Economist@TheEconomist

Why are India’s cities so chaotic? They have grown at a blistering pace, but lack proper political representation because the country has a lopsided electoral system. The Economist examines the problem and what can be done to fix it for our new column about India, Ashoka econ.st/42OMbu8
