In 2024, he won a bronze medal at an international competition in Russia. His last Instagram post showed him back on the mat after recovering from an injury. He wrote, “And we held on beyond what we ever imagined for ourselves.” On March 19, 2026, the Islamic Republic of Iran executed him publicly in the city of Qom. They accused him of stabbing a police officer 29 times during protests on January 8th. Here’s what the evidence showed…security cameras never captured his face at the scene. His family, teammates, and coaches all testified he wasn’t there. He was at his uncle’s home. He told the court his confession was obtained under torture. Reports indicate he suffered fractured hands during detention. The court ignored all of it. When his family tried to hire independent legal counsel, the court refused and appointed a state lawyer instead. Amnesty International said he was denied a meaningful defense. Iran Human Rights called the verdict the product of a sham trial built on torture-extracted confessions. Iranian legal monitors went further and called it an extrajudicial killing dressed in judicial language. The formal charge was “enmity against God.” They also claimed he acted on behalf of Israel and the United States, a sentence the regime applies to protesters and dissidents as a matter of routine. It means nothing except that the outcome was decided before the trial began. This is the regime. Not the Iranian people who took to the streets because their currency had collapsed, food prices had surged, and they had run out of options. These executions exist to spread fear because the Islamic Republic understands that the greatest threat to its survival comes from its own people. Saleh Mohammadi was hanged to make sure everyone else thinks twice. They did the same thing in 2020 when they executed wrestler Navid Afkari. The world expressed outrage and Iran kept going. This time, there are people cheering for this regime. Not for the Iranians being dragged from their homes, tortured into false confessions, and hanged in public squares.
