Shows how detached from reality a lot of media coverage of Israel has become. Most pro-Israel Jews are Democrats!
John Podhoretz@jpodhoretz

@anniekarni, a veteran NYT reporter, published a piece tn which she calls AIPAC a "hard-right lobbying group." What possible defense can you have of this formulation about an organization whose staff is probably 70 percent Democratic, Annie? Is it fun joining the jackals?

i wore my kippah to a meeting in Midtown yesterday. the guy across the table looked at it for about 3 seconds before we started talking. didn't say anything. didn't have to. i could feel him deciding something about me before i opened my mouth. we closed the deal. being visibly Jewish in business in 2026 means you walk into every room knowing some people made up their mind about you before you sat down. you show up anyway.

To be💯clear for anyone who doesn’t know our union: we believe in justice and liberation for all. This incident has nothing to do with the flag that was waved. The people who attacked our member don’t represent the movement calling for an end to violence and genocide against Palestinians anymore than they represent our city. Don't use our pain to spew your ignorant hate. nytwa.org/ceasefire

That's our member behind the wheel. He was pulled out of the cab and suffered shock and physical injury to his arm, back and head. The whole city is elated about our hometown team — and that includes drivers who watched the game last night at airport lots while waiting for the next fare, listened on their radios while cruising for the next job, and huddled at hotel lines with the same heart-stopping anxiety that turned into the most beautiful joy. Pulling the cab driver out of his seat, stomping on and shattering his hood turned our joy into a nightmare. When you see the yellow, do you not see the person behind the wheel? That's someone's spouse, child, parent or friend — a New Yorker. He wasn’t out there for a joy ride, he was working to make ends meet and to get his fellow New Yorkers home safely. Cabbies pay just to go to work. They pay for their cars — whether through loans or leases. Drivers need safety on the job, both in the quiet moments of ordinary days and in the middle of public celebration. Shame on anyone who turns these joyful moments into nightmares for fellow New Yorkers.

A good friend (age 45) of mine lost his long time tech job ($200+ k per year) a few months ago. He is a very talented guy, not obsolete skills at all. He is not finding a replacement job at anywhere near is previous salary. He said he declined one offer at $95,000 because of the huge pay reduction. He built a lifestyle based on closer to $200,000 per year. Whether it is a bit of age discrimination or economy or Ai related, don't count on that $200 k lasting until age 65. I am hearing anecdotal scenarios like that, especially in tech. If you lose a high income job and you are already near 50, it is really tough to get another job at the same pay level.

🚨 Upper West Side voters: @EliNorthrup wants to represent our Jewish community in Albany (AD69) while his old band Pants Velour dropped raunchy filth like this? And celebrated using drugs! youtu.be/-2oTKidVDss?si… This is the "progressive" pick backed by @NYCMayor & @BernieSanders? A guy whose music career was straight-up sexually explicit, who worked at Bronx Defenders (sued for antisemitism, $170K settlement, "Kill the NYPD" rap) and joked about domestic violence in his Sheen tribute rap. Contrast that with Rabbi @StephanieRuskay a true leader rooted in Jewish values, fighting for our community with integrity. Upper West Side deserves better. I recently came across a flyer for an orthodox singles shabbaton. These are the age brackets Women: 23-28 Men: 25-31 Let me make this clear, by promoting or attending this event, you are complicit. There’s no need to feed ageist norms in 2026. 1/2 🧵

WHAT WE GIVE ISRAEL The standard US military aid package is $3.8 billion per year $3.3 billion in Foreign Military Financing plus $500 million for joint missile defense programs. Israel must spend most of this on US-made products and services, and by 2028 essentially all of it must be spent in America. WHAT ISRAEL GIVES BACK 1. F-35 R&D Savings: 55 billion Israel resolved multiple technical issues during the F-35’s early development, reducing US R&D costs by an estimated $55 billion and accelerating deployment timelines. The total F-35 program cost was $55 billion in R&D Israel’s combat testing effectively saved the US from having to discover and fix those problems on their own dime. 2. Intelligence Value: equivalent to 5 CIAs (75 billion/year) General George Keegan, former Chief of US Air Force Intelligence, stated that Israel’s intel value equals “5 CIAs” providing a 400% return on investment on the $3.8 billion aid package. One CIA budget runs approximately $15 billion. Five times that equals roughly $75 billion worth of intelligence annually for $3.8 billion in aid. 3. Strategic Base Value: $15–20 billion/year As stated by Admiral Elmo Zumwalt and General Alexander Haig, Israel is the largest US aircraft carrier that does not require US military personnel on board, cannot be sunk, and is deployed in a critical region sparing the US the need to manufacture, deploy, and maintain real aircraft carriers with ground divisions, which would cost the US $15–20 billion annually. 4. F-35 Export Multiplier: $40 billion in sales, $173 billion backlog Israel’s battle-tested performance and upgrades to the F-35 contribute to $40 billion in US exports and a $173 billion backlog for US industry. Israel essentially serves as the world’s most credible advertisement for American weapons. 5. Jobs and Economic Output: 255,000 jobs, $72 billion annually The F-35 economic engine alone supports 290,000 US employees and $72 billion in annual economic output. Israeli stakeholders hold contracts with over 1,000 American companies across 48 states, DC, and Puerto Rico. Why do people need to lie about this? Because they have nefarious reasons. There’s no other reason to lie about this stuff.

Narrative violation warning: Elders in my Arab village in Israel told me the richest Palestinians sold their land and left first. 80 years later, their grandkids now claim to be displaced victims. I am so allergic to victim mindset. It boils my blood. ~15 million displaced Hindus and Muslims in India-Pakistan around the SAME year. No one is trying to be a victim there. It's time to move on. "You only get to be a victim once. After that, you’re a volunteer."

Today marks Nakba Day, an annual day of remembrance to commemorate the expulsion of more than 700,000 Palestinians between 1947 and 1949 during the creation of the State of Israel and the year that followed. Inea is a New Yorker and a Nakba survivor. She shared her story with us — one of home, tradition and memory over generations.

😂 This “Nakba Survivor” is literally a “European settler” In the late 19th century, Muslim Bosnians (including Inea’s grandparents), fled Bosnia to Ottoman Syria, after Austria-Hungary took control of Bosnia. They feared that now, the Christians will seek revenge after years of mistreatment. Inea’s father’s family lived in Tulkaram, but he himself lived in Jerusalem where Inea was born. In the 1930’s, Inea’s father had a Job in England, he returned to Mandatory Palestine after a few years, but in 1948 they decided to move back to England. They were not expelled, and no one forced them to move to England. As a matter of fact, Tulkaram, and the old city of Jerusalem remained under Jordanian Arab control. Not a single Zionist to bee seen there. So in summary, this is a European with no strong roots in the land of Israel, whose family made the decision to immigrate back to the continent of their grandparents instead of remaining under Arab control. (And the “visit Palestine” poster on her wall is a Zionist poster by Franz Kraus to encourage Zionist tourism to the holy land. It’s not even the original poster, but a replica of the poster, with an additional Hebrew description mentioning his name 🤦‍♂️)

It’s inaccurate to say Eli lacks local support. He was endorsed by 3 of the 4 major neighborhood political clubs (with West Side Democrats declining to endorse anyone), and as I understand it, he won those endorsements with supermajority support in each club.

This @nytimes analysis of the Assembly District 69 primary makes it sound a lot like the City Council District 3 special election (where Carl Wilson crushed Lindsey Boylan). If it’s accurate, that could be bad news for Eli. nytimes.com/2026/05/16/nyr…

Pointing to the $29B cost of the Iran war, House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries called for $1B in federal security grants for nonprofits — more than triple the $300M Congress just approved for synagogues and Jewish institutions. @GSDeutch reports: jewishinsider.com/2026/05/hakeem…
