Vitamin D supplementation may dramatically improve breast cancer treatment outcomes. A new randomized clinical trial found that women with breast cancer who took vitamin D while undergoing chemotherapy were 79% more likely to experience complete disappearance of their tumors. The study, conducted at São Paulo State University in Brazil, followed 80 women over age 45 receiving neoadjuvant chemotherapy (treatment before surgery to shrink tumors). Half received 2,000 IU of vitamin D daily, while the other half received a placebo. After six months, 43% of the women in the vitamin D group achieved a pathological complete response (no detectable cancer at surgery), compared to just 24% in the placebo group. Many participants started the study with low vitamin D levels, which researchers believe may have amplified the benefit of supplementation. While vitamin D is well-known for supporting bone and immune health, emerging evidence suggests it may help make tumor cells more sensitive to chemotherapy. [Omodei, M. S., et al. (2025). Vitamin D Supplementation Improves Pathological Complete Response in Breast Cancer Patients Undergoing Neoadjuvant Chemotherapy: A Randomized Clinical Trial. Nutrition and Cancer, 77(6), 648–657. @danaparish @julia_doubleday Chicago "health" highlights wastewater viruses according to marketing budget for "vaccines". The entero / rhino virus has the highest levels by far. Congestion, sore throat & some fatigue. Quest PCR respiratory panel is poor, use others. It was nasty last spring.

This is a nice lull and great news. As a reminder, in fall 2021 (post vaccine), Fauci said a reasonable level of covid circulating to remove precautions would be 10k cases/day. This is the first time we’ve fallen below 100k cases/day in the nearly 5 years since
JWeiland@JPWeiland

April 24th Update: We are at the lowest transmission levels in almost 5 years, 40% lower than our recent spring lows. This remarkable lull should last 6+more weeks. Estimates: 🔸90,000 new infections/day 🔸~1 in 750 currently reasonably infectious (5 day window)

@tallowqueen OMG. Single dose doxy doesn’t prevent Lyme! It prevents Lyme RASH. Treat tick bites with a full course of Doxy or gamble with your future.

I recently joined the Rally Against Peoples Gas because utility companies are raising rates on Chicagoans—even though their executives are getting big bonuses. We need to stop this and bring down energy prices⚡️🔋

⚠️ We are alarmed by the numerous reports we’re seeing on an explosion of ticks already! We agree with treating shoes with Permethrin (follow instructions on bottle) and doing lots of tick checks! Throw clothes into the dryer for 10-15 min as well after possible exposure.
Dana Parish@danaparish

🚨 Strongly rec treating shoes w permethrin (🚩FOLLOW LABEL FOR INSTRUCTIONS). It’s an insecticide that kills vs repels ticks. Repellants don’t work well for ticks as they tend to crawl over it & bite on a non-sprayed part of your skin. Nothing replaces lots of good tick checks.

@RepMikeQuigley Our healthcare is poor today. The entire system & incentives need to be reworked to: * incentivize patient research & education * improve diagnostic tests for chronic conditions * improve food supply (regenerative agriculture) * isolate pharma interventions (including vaccines)

@Rainmaker1973 Most/all scientists and engineers have underestimate/oversimplify complexity of biological interactions within a moderately sized biome. It seems like there is more downside risk than upside benefit.

In a major step forward for public health, genetically modified mosquitoes have officially been released in Florida to help fight the spread of dangerous diseases. The project focuses on the Aedes aegypti mosquito, the primary carrier of Zika, dengue, and yellow fever. Bioengineered male mosquitoes — which do not bite — are being introduced into the environment. These males carry a self-limiting gene that is passed to their offspring. When they mate with wild females, the female offspring inherit the gene and die before reaching adulthood, gradually reducing the population of disease-carrying mosquitoes. Although Aedes aegypti represents only a small fraction of the total mosquito population, it is responsible for transmitting the most serious illnesses. By specifically targeting this species, the initiative aims to suppress disease transmission without harming beneficial insects or relying heavily on chemical insecticides. This U.S. field trial builds on highly successful programs in countries such as Brazil and Panama, where similar techniques reduced local Aedes aegypti populations by more than 90%. Researchers hope the self-sustaining nature of the genetic modification will provide a more effective and sustainable alternative to traditional pest control methods, potentially transforming how the world manages invasive, disease-spreading mosquitoes. @RepMikeQuigley I agree nobody should get sick from eating food...And yet the FDA allows garbage in food that greatly increased chronic disease & death. Start eliminating the artificial ingredients in all the food here so it is like the healthy food in Europe.

Companies like Raw Farm are taking advantage of raw milk conspiracy theories in order to push their unsafe products. At least seven people have caught E. coli from their cheese. My colleagues and I on the Food Safety Caucus are calling for the FDA to force a recall on Raw Farm cheese immediately. No one should get sick from their food. newsweek.com/raw-farms-chee…
