@CoeusQueryall @Absyrte @MadKamikazius @Braxaluss Magic exists, but its largely a niche thing. The general ecology of Westeros is not portrayed as magical. This is nitpicking, sure, but given that GRRM did say that famous quote where he essentially demanded rationalization, this is hardly an unfair thing to analyze.

@Absyrte @dnnnychs @MadKamikazius @Braxaluss are you trying to rationalize a world where there are dogs bigger than bears and an army of undead, dragons and assasins that can change faces as if its the same world we live in

George Martin: "I find it lacking that we never learn of Aragorn's tax policy." Okay George. Then you can probably explain to us how the seasons work in your world, and how wildlife manages to survive years-long winters. It's a fundamental part of your world. Can you, George?

@CoeusQueryall @MadKamikazius @Braxaluss Realistically the North would be dead, frozen wastes akin to a less glacier-covered Greenland in winter and slowly turn into a tundra during summer, only for the next winter to wipe most of that out again.

@CoeusQueryall @MadKamikazius @Braxaluss None of this explains how anything is alive in the North. You wouldnt have forests there, no tree survives a 6 year winter. Same for pretty much every single animal. What would a fully-frozen North have to trade with the rest of the world? Not to mention the logistics of trade…

@UngatoAlbino @luvthatEU @TrueSlazac Ah right, the colonial product who's claim to the Falklands hinges on the legitimacy of Spain's unfulfilled colonial ambitions calling the people who actually live there colonizers. Impressive, in a way.

@ThatchEffendi Well, I dont hate it, it does look pretty lifeless though, like some desert rock formation (not a fan personally). As for the inside, the communal shower comparison seems accurate.

@3RenChengHu @PhilWMagness Possible, but he was certainly someone who profiteered off slavery, which is the part people care about for their moral condemnations. Also, surely the American North had industries besides textiles, much of the cotton was exported anyways.

That's the "slavery built America" argument. Northern industry relied on Southern cotton. The fallacy is that if there had been no slavery, cotton would have been grown with free labor, as it was postbellum, and would have been moderately more expensive. Engels' family would likely have been wealthy regardless.

Reminder: Karl Marx's lifestyle was directly subsidized by the proceeds of American slavery, which made Engels rich from his family's cotton textile mill.

@3RenChengHu @PhilWMagness In this specific context its not that and makes sense. After all, where did the cheap(-ish) cotton that allowed Engels' cotton textile mill to operate come from? Its downstream from slavery in a very direct and quantifiable way.

@jxxsway_sm2 @AndroodX @QuiltstarCo @TNOQuoProQuid No? Theres about a billion other factors that flow into a game's popularity other than how memorable its environment is. The Witcher 3 was still a wildly successful game btw, dont overrate your own experience.

@AndroodX @QuiltstarCo @TNOQuoProQuid Novigrad, Oxenfurt, Toussaints capital and "that one town in Skellige where the king of it lives" (bad memory for names sry) are definitely more memorable than most cities in Skyrim. Sure, the little villages arent particularly memorable, but I dont think they're meant to be.

@ChangedLater22 @CTPhipps1980 @highelven I'm pretty sure she explicitly wanted an unsanctioned one to dabble with forbidden forces for her, Idira was loyal and accountable only to her The whole "hearing voices" thing (prob daemons, they sometimes seem to tell her useful things) wouldnt be appreciated by the authorities

@CTPhipps1980 @highelven I do wonder why Theodora wanted an unsanctioned psyker considering she’s a rogue trader and could afford the resources to do it. Hell she repopulated Weiz’s choir with the best, she could get some training for idira.

@anbc_handsome @highelven Eh, once you start to understand the basics BG3 becomes pretty easy. I started with only the most barebones DnD knowledge - I had technically played a one-shot before, but mechanically learned nothing except "roll dice to do things" from that.

rogue trader and in part bg3's battle systems are the only crpg ones i've experienced that very obviously reward you for learning how to play them and slowly get better. in retrospect, dos2 will call you slurs as it shoves magic armor in your face even if you're a veteran

@grandabbotmeteo @highelven I like how two different people, including OP, responded to me with a modicum of interpersonal understanding and civility, and even derived insight from what I said And here you come, apparently deciding "you know what? I think I'll be condescending and dismissive."

@Linus200712345 Weapons dont tend to get built without them eventually being used. Military capacity burns in the pocket of the politician until they whip up enough hysteria for it to be applied (Iraq, Ukraine etc.)

I am generally very positive about German military buildup. I love Germany and as a scandinavian I can relate to the country. So most of what he said here I did not really feel much for. So what if Germany becomes more proactive? But towards the end here he made a good point. 1/2

@003Energenic @euromaximal @Scorpion8615 Slaves were not just imported to colonies. There were also slave populations in mainland Europe, that does not make those territories colonies in the sense of colonialism.
