@DeviaVir @BitcoinNewsCom Interesting if there really are newer iterations of the proposal being worked on, I'm not seeing anything about this anywhere - just the shock over unrealized gains.

NEW: Dutch Parliament Member Michel Hoogeveen explains how the 36% unrealized capital gains tax, just passed by the House of Representatives, will work. Here is a more detailed example: Step 1. Starting position You own 500 shares. Value on Jan 1, 2028: €50,000 Value on Jan 1, 2029: €100,000 So the paper gain is: €100,000 − €50,000 = €50,000 unrealized profit You did not sell. But for tax purposes, that €50,000 is treated as income. Step 2. Apply exemption You are married, so you get a €3,600 exemption. €50,000 − €3,600 = €46,400 taxable amount Tax rate: 36% €46,400 × 36% = €16,704 tax bill That bill is due in May, even though you never sold anything. Step 3. Market falls before you pay Now suppose by May the shares drop in value. New total value: €60,000 So your portfolio is no longer worth €100,000. It’s worth €60,000. But the tax bill is still €16,704, because it was calculated based on the January 1 valuation. Step 4. You must sell shares to pay tax To raise €16,704, you sell part of your shares. After paying the tax, you’re left with: €60,000 − €16,704 = €43,296 Originally you had 500 shares. Now you have 360 shares left. You were forced to sell 140 shares. 140 ÷ 500 = 28% of your shares gone. Step 5. What happened economically? Before the correction: Paper gain was €50,000. After the correction: Portfolio is worth €60,000. Original cost basis was €50,000. Real gain is only €10,000. But you paid €16,704 in tax. So instead of being up €10,000, you are now: €43,296 − €50,000 = €6,704 below your original starting value. You turned a €10,000 real gain into a €6,704 net loss. And you lost 28% of your shares permanently.

Heh I'm still at the beginning of this with the youngest being 3 months old! 4 kids 5 and under is exhausting but awesome, looking forward to seeing them age and become more their own people. Nice to see someone who has made it to the point where the youngest is 10, cheers!

A highlight of last year was attending @OpenSauceLive and meeting tons of amazing makers and content creators. If you can make it Jul 18-19, in San Mateo CA, it's worth it. 'Super' early bird pricing ends tomorrow... opensauce.com/tickets/

@eurofounder It's been a long while since I went to Denny's; amusingly enough I have since moved to Europe from America. Can one still get pancakes and coffee for two for $12.50 (before tipping?). I remember the $1.99 Grand Slam offers from the 20+ year "distant" past. If so, good deal!

A waitress from Denny's restaurant attacked me today I was having breakfast with my uncle Ludwig, bill came to $12.50 for pancakes and coffee We are in America so I adjusted to local customs and gave waitress $13, telling her to keep the change She said this is not enough and the tip should be at least 20% I explained that in Europe servers get paid actual salaries and don't guilt customers into subsidizing their employer's wage theft "Well ur in AMERICA now u cheap European bastard" she screamed at me I told her that maybe if she got a real job instead of bringing pancakes to strangers, she wouldn't have to beg for tips She threw the 50 cents at me I picked it up because I'm not wasteful Looks like standing up to America's broken economic system sometimes means being called names in a Denny's parking lot

I manually looked through 6000 Pebble watchfaces (50% of the appstore) and picked my 400 favs! The appstore now shows a random selection of those favs. Let me know what you think - and which ones I missed!

KISS OF THE SPIDER WOMAN Bill Condon succeeds at displaying dazzling musical numbers of a begotten era. A story of two halves unfortunately fights each other creating an awkward prolonged pacing. Above all this is Tonatiuh's film in a spectacular star making role of beauty & pain

Pebble is officially back on iOS and Android! Download it now, works with all old and new Pebbles. Incredible that everything's still working just as well as before. Can you say that about any other tech product you bought 13 years ago?? rePebble.com/app

Eating spicy chili peppers might reduce your risk of death. A study of 500,000+ people found that regular chili eaters: + 25% lower rate of all-cause death + 26% lower rate of cardiovascular death + 23% lower rate of cancer death Compared to those who rarely ate chili. Hot ones i’m ready for you

@ericmigi Charged up my old EVT Pebble 2, paired it smoothly to the new app, and it promptly updated to the latest v4.3 FW. Everything works great! That was Monday, and still 10% battery remaining after wearing it all week. It's like I pulled the watch out of my drawer 10 years ago. ❤️

Teslas displaced my exotic cars many years ago, but with the Roadster still an indeterminate distance in the future, I had been feeling an urge for something a little more… analog. I was initially thinking about a 60’s Camaro with modernized running gear, but a part of me was also nostalgic for my old MGB. I eventually remembered that there was a car right at the intersection of muscle car grunt and British roadster charm – the ‘65 Shelby Cobra. It is kind of amazing that the federal Low Volume Motor Vehicle Manufacturers Act of 2015 authorizes small runs of replica vehicles to basically ignore all the safety and emissions regulations. All the paternalism and crusading was just pushed aside in the name of letting small companies make badass cars. On my birthday, Trista nudged me into visiting @EMotorcars where they had a dozen different replicas on hand. I was partial to the idea of a carbureted 427 with a magneto as a Mad Max post-EMP LARP, but practicality prevailed, and I wound up with a modern Coyote crate motor in a @Backdraftracing chassis.
