@Dunibear Great. A bit odd though, given how the livestock is subsequently treated at slaughter time. Especially the 20% who will sadly go to the halal version. Odd how we worry about animal welfare but only to a point.

Delighted to announce I have passed my PhD on the psychology of marriage at the University of Bristol Lots to say when I launch my findings in June. Suffice to say that research to date has seriously underestimated the impact of marriage Dr Harry? 😀 Dr Marriage? 😂 @MarriageF

@ClarkeMicah @andyblueskyz You are completely wrong. E-bikes make cycling accessible for people who wouldn’t choose to cycle. They add either range, speed, or lack of sweat whilst still being a lot of exercise for the user. Maybe for your own health, you should try it.

.@andyblueskyz. No, it is not. Electric motorbikes are not superior in any way to muscle-powered bikes. They are far heavier and more dangerous, deprive their users of healthy exercise, clutter the streets and pollute the air by placing extra strain on the gas-fired power grid.

Conservative MP Esther McVey has called for a law to label halal and kosher meat so people can decide not to eat it 'Individuals concerned about animal welfare would want to know if an animal had been stunned prior to slaughter,' she said

@JonathanPieNews Heaven forbid we talk about a middle ground where the rights of the Tourette sufferer are balanced with the rights of the actors to not be slurred like that in front of millions. Or that we recognise, just like in the classroom, the inclusion of 1 often means the exclusion of 29.

Apparently there are a lot of people around today who are under the impression that Tourette’s is something that can be controlled. I wonder if these are the same people who would tell someone with chronic depression to just 'cheer up'?

@gregbagwell We made room back in 2003. It was rammed. I was there. So is the problem one of capacity or of the incumbent president not being to your liking?

The RAF has one base/airfield on Cyprus, and it’s full up with our own assets already prosecuting operational missions and defending our base from any Iranian reprisals. This idiot would have us expose all that and the Service families living there to make room for Trump…
Michael Fabricant 🇬🇧🇺🇸🇮🇱🇺🇦@Mike_Fabricant

The UK has TWO RAF bases on Cyprus which are far closer to Iran than the domestic airport on Crete being used by the US. All because of #Starmer's obsession with 'legal process'. Iran has an evil regime.

@rebeccabutlerm2 Most days I take a moment to reflect that I’m very lucky to fly search and rescue helicopters to help people in distress, and not, say, a sleazy marriage lawyer who makes a mint turning families inside out and leaving children in their wake. Soon, your job will be AI. Mine won’t.

@gregbagwell So Iraq or Afghanistan were never dangerous. Have we just parked Libya like a bad sequel that never happened? But the threats were whipped to frenzy levels and off we went and paid a heavy price. But we expect people to get behind the idea that Iran is a threat? Tough sell.

As the US stands poised to attack Iran (a country far more dangerous and unpredictable than Iraq or Afghanistan ever was), we would do well not to be too distracted by a small island chain in the Indian Ocean…
Conservatives@Conservatives

Keir Starmer has been forced to delay his surrender of the Chagos Islands, again. This is the first step. After meetings in the US led by @MPIainDS - @pritipatel will fly to Washington to continue our campaign to stop the surrender. It's time to u-turn, Prime Minister.

He was DEFEATED ELEVEN TIMES. Attacked. Threatened with DEATH. Nearly blind. Addicted to opium just to function. They told him to stop. He spent forty-six years refusing. His name was William Wilberforce. Born in Hull, 1759. He could have lived a comfortable life. Wealthy family. Safe seat in Parliament. Instead he chose to destroy the most powerful economic system in the British Empire. The slave trade. He didn't fight alone. Thomas Clarkson rode 35,000 miles gathering evidence. Olaudah Equiano, man who had been enslaved himself, gave testimony that no politician could ignore. Wilberforce took their evidence to Parliament. They voted no. He came back. They voted no. He came back. Lost by eight votes. MPs deliberately stayed away so they wouldn't have to choose a side. He came back. Again. And again. And again. By now his eyesight was nearly gone. His body was breaking. He'd been on opium since he was 29. Twenty years after he started, they voted again. 283 to 16. The slave trade was abolished. But he wasn't finished. Slavery itself was still legal. He fought for another twenty-six years. In July 1833, lying in bed, barely able to move, he received word. Parliament had voted. Slavery was abolished across the entire British Empire. Three days later, William Wilberforce died. He held on just long enough. They buried him in Westminster Abbey. Help keep our stories alive. proudofus.co.uk/support Be part of us. Be Proud Of Us. 🇬🇧

@ggkuhnle I think the evidence for fibre is pretty robust, actually. Some fads come and go, such as protein.

@doyleysar Some people are very much against fibre. Some people are against processing. Some people simply believe everyone should eat what they like to eat. All based on the same type of evidence.

The UPF activist crowd promotes many fringe ideas - many as far remover from actual science as the idea of UPF. An ideology that can only survive when it excludes critics and resorts to conspiracy has usually very weak scientific foundations.
Joanna Blythman@JoannaBlythman

In other words, we’ve all had enough of humouring the plant-based/vegan delusion. It was a recipe for ultraprocessed fake food, nutrient deficiency and eating disorders. Nutrient-dense animal-source meat, eggs, dairy, fish are key to a healthy diet.

We’re hosting a @Reddit Ask Me Anything on the new @TheLancet Series on Ultra-Processed Foods and Human Health. If you’re interested in the science, policy implications, or the broader food systems debate, join the discussion and add your question here: reddit.com/r/AMA/comments…
Chris van Tulleken 🏳️‍🌈@DoctorChrisVT

Ultra Processed Food, and the system that produces it, has overtaken tobacco in terms of health and economic harms, and is also the leading cause of plastic pollution, loss of biodiversity and deforestation, and the second leading cause of emissions. This week @TheLancet published a landmark three-part series on the science, policy and politics of #UPF. thelancet.com/series-do/ultr…
