Great to see this important initiative from The Lancet family of journals including @TheLancetOncol highlighting areas of enhanced scrutiny for oncology clinical trials published in the journal, consistent with @csoncol RCT checklist recommendations. It takes courage to lead the change. Very proud of the entire Lancet family of specialty journals for taking this stand. @drsarahsam Sometimes patients have complained that they felt distressed in oncology corridors when final diagnosis was not cancer. So this practice has a well being angle as well.

I apologize on behalf of all medical oncologists for the “I won’t see the patient until the biopsy returns” sentiment in which I disagree. We still have a lot to offer in terms of work-up, symptom relief, expectations, onc emergency management. It’s a symptom of burnout.

We argue that the term “Comprehensive cancer centre” is not consistent with patient centered care and health equity. A “Comprehensive cancer network” reflects modern networked systems.
