Too many people are directionless, giving room for many forms of “ the answer” to their problems.
Go to the gym.
Don’t go to the gym.
Only do compound exercises.
Focus on HRV.
Only walk but with a vest.
Must sleep 8 hours.
Must not oversleep.
Must not under sleep.
No meat.
All meat.
All veg.
All farm to table.
Organic is a scam.
No alcohol.
No sugar.
Natural sugar only.
No Rx drugs.
Yes Rx drugs.
Yes peptides.
No peptides.
No HRT.
Yes HRT.
At some point, we will all realize that none of these are the answer. You are looking to fill a hole because your current life has made you an NPC playing someone else’s game by their rules. It’s their game, not yours that is making you unhappy.
Find your game and go play it.
You’ll probably be happy as a result, do a bit of everything from the list above and will end up living to whatever you’re supposed to - very, very happily.

derek thompsons recent article inspired me to read more about alcohol im shocked by the est impact vs current narrative for instance, 7-14 drinks per wk reduces life expectancy by only 6 mos (!!) moreover, the negative effect is possibly offset by gains from deeper friendships

Ben Horowitz says Silicon Valley is hard to recreate because it requires talent, policy, and culture:
"The first is you do need the talent... is there a great technical university that graduates people who know how to build things?"
"Many countries have that, that don't have a Silicon Valley. And what are they missing? They're missing the other two components."
"The second is, do you have a set of laws and policies that facilitate entrepreneurship, are essentially good for business?"
"The third one... is the culture such that young people, the most capable young people willing to make the biggest contribution, do they get status, social status reward?"
"That's the thing that's so hard to replicate, and it's so hard to build, and it's so easy to destroy."

Be extreme, Canada.
That is not an ideological plea, but an appeal to a forgotten inheritance and a hope that we find it within ourselves to be extreme, again. It is a recognition that to be Canadian is to hold two opposing truths in your mind at once: Canadians are mild and moderate but Canada itself is harsh and brutal. F. Scott Fitzgerald once wrote, the test of a first-rate intelligence is the ability to hold two opposed ideas at the same time and still retain the ability to function. Canada is that test, made manifest.
Canada is not gentle. It is not mild. It is not moderate. It is extreme in scale. Extreme in climate. Extreme in beauty. Extreme in wealth—of resources, of land, of possibility. It is a country that demands resilience from those who inhabit it, whether they admit it or not.
And so we arrive at the paradox: a people perceived as restrained, living within a landscape that is anything but. This is not a contradiction. This is the source of Canadian genius.
Because what emerges from this tension is not weakness. It is control. It is discipline. It is a quiet form of ambition that does not need to announce itself to be real. It’s breaking your leg, helping your team score 6 goals and waving to the crowds as you’re carted out on a stretcher.
To be a Canadian extremist, then, is to embrace both halves fully. It is to reject the caricature of smallness while also rejecting the need for bluster. It is to understand that politeness is not passivity, and that restraint is not the absence of ambition, but often its most disciplined expression.
It is to build in a way that reflects the land itself: vast in scope, resilient in structure, and uncompromising in its standards.
Canada does not need to become something else to compete. It does not need to abandon its character to achieve scale. The path forward is not to resolve the contradiction, but to lean into it—to recognize that the tension between humility and enormity is precisely what makes this country capable of extraordinary things.
The nations that shape history are often the ones that understand their extremes. Canada’s mistake has been to ignore its own.
I am a Canadian extremist because I refuse to.

Focus on what you can control. Build something, anything. A product, yourself, a family, your community, a team, a company or organization, relationships. Or help someone else do it. Don't complain or be a victim, ever. #PlayNiceButWin
