IRAN DEAL STILL POSSIBLE⁉️ Rubio says a deal with Iran could still happen within days, despite fresh U.S. strikes and a fragile ceasefire. Clarification: we are still at the MOU stage, not the deal.

Is the United States actively trying to sabotage any possibilities for a negotiated end to the war in Iran? How can it be that mere hours after President Trump says we are negotiating to try to end the war, the US military conducts a whole series of strikes against multiple targets in Iran, claiming they were “defensive“ in nature, but giving no explanation for how missile launch sites at Bander Abbas threatened American troops by its mere existence, especially during the time of ceasefire. Meanwhile, Israel continues and even intensifies it’s an attack against Hezbollah in Lebanon, and President Trump continues to imply military force is still on the menu. All of these things undermine any possibility of a negotiated settlement, as it signals to Iran that America has no interest in a diplomatic solution, only in Iranian capitulation.

So Trump keeps doing all he can to get this “deal” done. Again, the point is to open Hormuz, and lock Iran in a holding pattern until after the midterms. That simple. It’s a smart strategic play. Why lose power and the voters at home, when you can actually do both, on your timetable. Iran will be in, at best, the same position in six months, probably weaker. But so many, with zero knowledge of anything, and by reacting to the nonstop reports from people who don’t know anything, make their play by play calls. Trump is using every possible medium to cobble together a six month deal. He is Not being used and manipulated, he is using and manipulating. It’s tricky, he has to convince the Iranians there is any reason to open Hormuz. There really is not for them, they are cooked. But they can cause economic issues. Just a fact. He wants to win the midterms. I am glad he wants to win them. He is going for it all. If he wasn’t trying to make a deal, we wouldn’t be here. He is and has been trying to make a deal Meanwhile the same old people act like Trump is stupid. 🥱

Too many people are convinced the Trump administration is playing games with the language they use about their negotiating position. The lack of confidence in this President - the ultimate BS detector who can sniff out a bad deal when it’s presented - is astounding. Stop accusing the White House of playing games! What kind of games? Here are examples of the conspiracy theories: - Saying “enriched uranium” but not really meaning ALL enriched uranium. Maybe only 60%, not the 20% or low enriched uranium. But don’t you think the president will ask, can they still make a bomb with what’s being left behind? - Saying enriched uranium may be shipped out to third countries or disposed of inside Iran, but this being code for caving to Iran’s position, JCPOA-style, with Iran shipping some to an ally while retaining a downblended stockpile. Don’t you think the president will ask questions like, can they even downblend inside Iran today, or if they did this would the remaining stockpile still constitute a threat, or isn’t this exactly like the JCPOA? - Saying “no dust, no dollars” but getting cute by giving Iran permission to draw on escrowed accounts in Qatar and Oman to pay debts and imports, but without the money going back to Tehran. Don’t you think the president knows this was Sleepy Joe’s trick to give sanctions relief to Iran, that the $6 billion in Qatar was the horrible hostage ransom payment every Republican condemned, and that budget support - whether the money sits in Tehran or Doha - is paying an extortion racket upfront and reducing the likelihood he ever gets the nuclear dust? - Saying no upfront sanctions relief from the United States while allowing Qatar or someone else to pay the ransom instead of us. As if the president has no clue that if anyone helps relive the pressure before he gets the nuclear dust, he will never get it? I recognize that many in Washington have been burned a thousand times by these kind of games under Obama and Biden. I testified before House Oversight just before October 7 laying out this exact subterfuge on Iran. But my goodness, give this president some credit for killing bad Iran deal proposal after bad Iran deal proposal on Iran since his first term. Mediators can scheme all they want - this President gets briefed, perhaps after 50 leaks occurred from people with half a clue, and he is the ultimate BS detector.

Futures are up bigly. The Iran conflict seems to be coming to an official close. That is welcomed news, and the market has been signaling that the conflict would no longer be an issue for a while. When the market talks, we need to listen. 💰

We conducted “self-defense strikes” against stationary “missile launch sites”? Were the Iranian launch facilities about to attack US troops? If not; why did we attack them? If they were going to attack us, are we to understand Iran ordered a single launch facility to attack US and violate the ceasefire, on such a tiny scale? Something not adding up here…
Zachary Cohen@ZcohenCNN

Just in: “U.S. forces conducted self-defense strikes in southern Iran today to protect our troops from threats posed by Iranian forces, US CENTCOM spokesman told CNN in a statement Monday when asked about explosions reported around the Strait of Hormuz. “Targets included missile launch sites and Iranian boats attempting to emplace mines. U.S. Central Command continues to defend our forces while using restraint during the ongoing ceasefire.”

The shipowners and insurers know more than anyone about the real situation in the Strait of Hormuz. Them moving ships to load - or prepare to load - oil is a pretty loud signal about what may happen. Things can change, but this is a good sign and has been for a couple of days. #Oil lower right now. Lets see how next 24-48 hours play out.

Can Iran be trusted after today? Amid peace talks, Iran was caught red-handed laying additional mines in the Strait of Hormuz. The USA responded by striking the two ships. US aircraft involved were then targeted by IRGC surface to air missiles (SAMs) out of Bandar Abas. The USA aircraft returned fire, destroying the SAM launch sites. Additional explosions were reported in several Iranian cities, even though portions of the internet were allegedly turned back on today, the additional strikes have not been confirmed. No footage has surfaced other than some air defense assets shooting near Isfahan. While Iranian officials may be negotiating in good faith (which I seriously doubt), the IRGC has proven time and time again that the negotiators are not in control of them.

I am told the US strikes are over for now. Again these were defensive in nature not offensive and not an effort to break the ceasefire. The US military says it reacted when they saw 2 IRGC boats laying mines and then also when a SAM missile site targeted its warplanes.
Jennifer Griffin@JenGriffinFNC

MORE details on US strikes vs Iranian targets today: 2 Iranian boats were caught laying mines in the Strait of Hormuz, senior US official tells me. The US military eliminated both IRGC vessels and also struck at a SAM (surface to air missile) site in Bandar Abbas that was targeting US warplanes. “These were defensive strikes.” They do not indicate ceasefire is over, according to two well placed sources.
