@Headteacherchat As a class teacher, may I ask you to consider how other teachers will feel about this. Staff welfare will be part of your role. I know we are all grown ups but I foresee a few ruffled feathers, quite rightfully.

@pavyg @Wimbledon No. Some people might be working and would like to watch it after a shift. It’s cooler. It probably suits a wider audience.

Anyone else think that the new 4pm start times for @Wimbledon finals are ridiculous?

@scambers73 @Wimbledon I have to go to work. I’d quite like to come home and watch the top players as the current schedule allows.

It should not be possible that three matches can’t be completed in a day on Centre Court at @Wimbledon - It is time to start earlier

@KirstieMAllsopp As a teacher, telling children someone has ‘passed’ would cause total confusion for them. It must be an adult thing.

When did we move from saying “sad to hear of the death of….” to “sad to hear of the passing of”? Is there any way to stop this? We are already bad enough at discussing death in the U.K.

@exheadteacher We do deliver the curriculum creatively don’t we? Discovering dragon footprints, hunting woolly mammoths, hot seating people from the past. But a whole theme based on the likes of a headteacher or class teacher? I’m not so sure. It’s just my opinion,

@dreamscore53 I note the description in your bio with interest. It's not so much about the football, more looking at creative ways of engaging children. The plain old curriculum can be a bit dull, in my experience.

1/4 Are we testing the creative life out of primary education? When I was a class teacher, events like the World Cup transformed our classrooms into learning HQs. Overnight, geography, history, and math came alive. Today? Rigid curriculum pressures have killed that magic. 🧵

Schools are not closed because the temperature, they are closed because of weak, woke Headmasters, who are bending to the weak, woke, selfish teachers that fancy a few days off sunbathing. It is pathetic.

@ynwalfc2006 @straight_batter I used a full stop. I wanted to create a long pause for literary effect. I manipulated the rules of grammar to suit my audience and purpose.

So my mates kids have been told a half day at school. So he's now gotta take a half day off work at 24 hours notice. But if he wants to take them outta school for a holiday he gets fined 🤔. Who's going to reimburse all the parents who will lose out on wages or holiday now

@Gingeryid81 We are. Some schools literally cannot. I’d starve for a month if it meant my children were safe and well. I’d find a way to afford it.

@dreamscore53 Isn't that what the school are supposed to do doing term time? You realise some people can't afford to lose half a day's pay? It's hot, really hot. Rest of the country gets on with it

Kids being given time off school - of course homes are much cooler than schools aren't they? And all these kids will likely to be off out to the park in the full sun. But it does mean teachers can have even more time off while others work.

@EJWoolf We are not childcare. If you prefer not to sacrifice a day at work for your own child and allow them to suffer heat exhaustion from being stuck in a hot room made hotter by the other 30 bodies, we apologise for that.

Yeah I'm raging 🔥☀️ WTF are working parents meant to do? Why not hold lessons under the trees, teach children about staying cool, make it educational/fun. Just like in lockdown, the poorer kids will suffer. And if schools EVER try to fine parents again they can bloody do one

@DillonGascoigne Happy to stay open if you don’t mind your child, rammed in a small room with 29 other children, feeling unwell and unable to do anything about it.

No safer at home than at school in this heat, but let’s close the schools. If I was to take my child out of school tomorrow for a family holiday, I’d be fined.

I’d just like to know why some schools are closing due to the ‘extreme temperatures’ I was born in 1970 and I don’t remember the school closing because of the heat! It’s Summer Ffs, they’ve got water bottles, crack a window and get the Hell on with your jobs! Ridiculous

@ian4downton Wow. Why do people hate schools so much? Most aren’t “closing”, pick up is optional. Those that have to, do so because it’s dangerous to stay open. Most jobs don’t involve 31 humans crammed in a room for 6 1/2 hours a day.
