@MidwestGolfJake Might be a controversial take, but giving them smaller driver heads might amplify their misses, but they might actually hit it further. Only real solution is to ban titanium/carbon/multimaterial faces, back to steel only

@JamesWi886 @MyGolfSpy Different lie angles and CGs I suspect, Quantum Max being more upright and probably slightly draw bias, versus TD Max being flatter and more neutral CG

@MyGolfSpy Surprised that the Callaway Quantum Max, basically the standard model, was longer than the triple diamond and the triple diamond max. And more forging one than the triple diamond max 🤷‍♂️ If these are accurate then not sure what job the Triple diamond max is doing?

@TaylorMadeGolf @TaylorMadeTour this needs to be called out, if these new REAX shafts are so good, why are the reviews I’m seeing have Qi4D drivers fitted with Ventus shafts? Is £550/$650 not enough to spend, add on £300/$350 for a shaft to get the best out of it @MyGolfSpy

@MyGolfSpy @Titleist Anyone averaging nearly 7 bunker shots a round in 75 rounds, doesn’t need new wedges, they need lessons. The fact you guys aren’t calling this marketing out is worrying. We all know grooves wear, but how about we get a more realistic number versus this

Replacing your wedges every 75 rounds seems ridiculous. Until you look at the data. We knew @titleist had been making this claim for too long, for us to have not tested it Here's the cold hard truth: buff.ly/xewdjhA

.@ColtKnost announced today that he’s seeking to become a reinstated amateur. This could lead to a most circuitous route to a Masters debut. Colt won the 2007 U.S. Amateur and U.S. Amateur Public Links. Both wins qualified him for the 2008 Masters. Colt turned pro after the 2007 Walker Cup instead, forgoing his Masters invitation. He quickly confirmed that it was the right call, winning 2 times in his first 12 starts on the Korn Ferry Tour in 2008. He easily earned his PGA TOUR card for the following season. But, in six full seasons on TOUR, he never did qualify for the Masters. “It’s frustrating the fact I never got there (Masters),” Knost once said, “but at the time I felt it was the right decision, 100%, and I still do.” What does the winner of the U.S. Mid-Am get? An invitation to the Masters.

@LouStagner Tell you what Lou, the more you reveal about handicap practices in the US, the more I scratch my head and wonder how the R&A got bullied into accepting a system closer to what the USGA preWHS used. No chance in hell I’d ever trust the handicap of anyone stateside 😂

Some golfers are "cheating" with the handicap system and don't even realize it. This "cheating" tends to give an advantage to higher handicap players and a disadvantage to lower handicap players. (This is because this issue happens more frequently with higher handicap players). When posting to GHIN, many golfers simply post their front nine and back nine totals, not their hole-by-hole score. For handicap purposes, the maximum you can take on a hole is net double bogey. When posting front nine and back nine total score, you are supposed to make this adjustment. If you made higher than net double bogey on a hole, you are supposed to adjust your score down to net double for that hole. There are golfers that are NOT doing this. They are just posting their actual gross scores. I think it should be mandated that golfers enter their hole-by-hole gross score for each round they play. I know @YipStrickler would approve.

@rossmacleodputt There was opportunity to change the rule after 1991 & 1993, but it wasn’t. There’s no fair solution, imagine having to ask a player to come over on the off chance he might get to play, doesn’t seem right

@drewyboy31 Yeah I don’t hate the rule or think it’s as bad a people are making out. If a player gets injured it’s just a bad situation and there’s no magic solution that fixes it.

Rather than change the envelope rule to opposing team gets a walk over why doesn’t each team have a sub who can play? I don’t think giving a walkover is fair either. Injuries are generally a bit of bad luck.

@4golfonline Imagine creating an event for career amateurs and then having it full of ex pros. I think the issue has nothing to do with stopping the best players playing, it’s about maintaining some level of amateur into high level amateur golf

Just imagine wanting to win anything that doesn’t allow the best players in it that are allowed to play. Just imagine thinking that’s some flex. Ego is as ego does.

@GregChalmersPGA @Fit_For_Golf MidAM events were created to fill that void for career amateurs, it’s maybe time the governing bodies looked to put some of the amateur back into elite amateur golf?

@GregChalmersPGA @Fit_For_Golf I’ll reverse this question for you then Greg, where do genuine AMs go for high level golf for their itch? We look like we’re heading to elite AM events being full of ‘full-time’ golfers and MidAM events being full of ex pros?

This concept gets a lot of back and forth. Love to know when was the last time a pro golfer got his amateur status back and went on to win a significant championship…😎
Tee Times@TeeTimesPub

The USGA needs to restore the integrity of amateur golf. Justin Hueber and Christian Brand both play in the US Mid-Am quarterfinals today. They combine for over 150 Korn Ferry Tour starts and nearly $500k in earnings. These are professional golfers, not amateurs.

@rossmacleodputt Maybe they can have their amateur status back, but they’d no longer be able to compete in regional or national events. We are already at a stage now where high level amateurs are pretty much full time golfers, the term amateur is becoming a bit loose.

Interesting topic this! I was a scratch golfer who turned pro to do my PGA training. I now coach and don’t play competitively because I’m not good enough to compete at pro levels. I am not allowed to play amateur golf as it would be deemed unfair because I coach the game. I accept this and knew what I was signing up for when embarking on my PGA training. What I will say though are there’s people “coaching” golf that compete at amateur level. They just don’t coach the full swing, short game or putting. They can be mind coaches, physical trainers or publish books on golf improvements. Then there’s golfers fresh off the Korn Ferry and other tours who get to play amateur golf. They have played a MUCH higher level of golf than I ever have. So what’s fair to keep the integrity of amateur golf? I’m asking because I think it’s interesting and don’t have all the answers. I’m not saying I should be allowed to play amateur events. But I think I’d be less of a threat than many golfers who do get to play 😂 Thoughts?

@4golfonline Does it not come back to that video you did with Rory years ago talking about the strength of the field at Augusta? Pre 1957, PGA was regarded as the hardest major to win because of the matchplay format, now its struggles to find a place with mediocre venues and format

We can rank majors as people who will never play in them. But I would guess you might rank differently if you had won one of them. The fact the Masters ranks higher than the USPGA arguably is crazy. I know this isn’t a popular take but what say you?

@GolfSpyC @GolfSpyT Is this the end game then for golfer? We’re just gonna be squeezed for every penny, whether it’s equipment, green fees or memberships? Is it heading back to elitist roots? Unless it’s 10% better than the rest, there’s zero justification for it, no matter how you want to spin it

You seem to have an issue with Titleist's pricing strategy. I, however, do not. What allows them to set a price are the same factors that determine how other golf companies set prices - market factors, material costs, desired margins, volume, etc. The bigger picture is that it's not as simple as "prices cannot continue to rise." - The real question, is how much can they increase and how will consumers respond? Always happy to be critical when warranted...but a Titleist product...a very niche one at that, priced 10% above competitors doesn't strike me as outlandish.

@GolfSpyT @GolfSpyC new Titleist GT280 release, $50 more than releases from TM, Callaway and PXG in the mini driver category, if new Elyte mini and Cobra mini driver stays at $449, don’t dare tell me that Titleist isn’t a factor in rising golf club pricing

@GolfSpyC @GolfSpyT Why does Titleist get to charge $50 more for a product that, let’s be honest, doesn’t offer anything different to what’s already on the market? I think you’re missing the bigger picture Chris. Price rises cannot continue, and all I hear from you so called disruptors is excuses
