@JustinBrannan This one hits hard. I was there often; they were always busy - line out the door. Plus, they supplied bread to other businesses. I’d like to imagine they will happily retire…or sell the business to their employees like Ugly Baby / Hungry Thirsty (which is as good as ever).

Caputo’s Bakery on Court Street, a.k.a. “the bread store,” has unexpectedly closed after 124 YEARS! They were a fifth-generation, family-run bakery for all that time. We’re all gonna need some time (and a seeded twist) to mourn this one.

Was Sabastian Sawe’s world record not even the craziest marathon performance of the day?? 🤯 Vincent Mauri ran his first marathon the Glass City Marathon in Toledo, OH, this morning… and won in 2:05:54, becoming only the fourth American ever to break 2:06. The 25-year-old @NDXCTF and @SunDevilTFXC alum won by 15 MINUTES running solo on a USATF-certified course. Mauri finished his collegiate career in 2025 with PBs of 3:59.05 (mile), 7:50.33 (3000m), and 13:34.03 (5000m).

Advocates want Brooklyn's Carroll Street Bridge (reopening soon) to be car-free. Here's a look at the last time it was probably car-free: the @TransAlt 2005 Century ride! After we did the 2005 version (I was the Brooklyn volunteer organizer) there were so many complaints about the cobblestones that I recall T.A. Central saying "never again". @CMShahanaHanif You or staff should please walk (not drive) Union St between 3rd Ave and 5th Ave. Strewn with trash, and it appears the car repair garages are using the public sidewalks to park damaged cars. These important businesses should be held to an appropriate standard.

🚨 ANOTHER DAY, ANOTHER WORLD RECORD FALLS 🚨 Jacob Kiplimo just shattered and took back the half marathon world record, clocking a 56:41 at the eDreams Mitja Marató Barcelona in Spain! He is the first man in history to break 57 minutes. That averages out to 4:19 per mile for 13.1 miles. 💨 That’s 49 seconds faster than the previous WR— the biggest improvement ever on the men’s half marathon mark. 🤯 Oh, and he also set a 15K world record (39:47) on the way. Kiplimo is getting ready to make his marathon debut in London in April.

I encourage more progress on trash/litter buildup around construction sites, unkept/overgrown sidewalk areas, and graffiti buildup. These QOL issues shouldn’t be minimized and are best seen while walking.

@CMShahanaHanif Hello Council Member Hanif. I encourage you/staff to walk Bond from Butler to Union. Take a left to proceed down Union to Third Ave. You will see the amount of sidewalk consumed by construction, and the filth/garbage/abandoned vehicles. I hope your office can facilitate cleanup.

This is yet another reminder of the urgent need to improve street safety infrastructure for pedestrians in our neighborhoods. New Yorkers must be able to get from place to place safely, and I remain committed to that.

The @NYPD76Pct has informed our Office that a vehicle crashed into a pedestrian on the intersection of Bond St. and Butler St. in Boerum Hill. Tragically, the pedestrian was pronounced dead this afternoon. We send our deepest condolences to the victim’s family.
