Ministry of Health Advances Kenya Health Policy Platform to Strengthen Sector Coordination The Ministry of Health has taken a key step towards strengthening health sector coordination and accountability by convening a high-level consultative forum in Nairobi to deliberate on the establishment of the Kenya Health Policy Platform (HPP) and Reform Acceleration Platform. The forum brought together national and county government leaders, development partners, and health sector stakeholders to address emerging system challenges, including constrained financing, evolving disease patterns, and fragmented policy implementation. These challenges have reinforced the need for a more coordinated, government-led approach to accelerate progress towards Universal Health Coverage (UHC). Speaking at the meeting held at the Radisson Blu Hotel, Nairobi, the Principal Secretary for Medical Services, Ouma Oluga, reaffirmed that UHC is a constitutional right and a core pillar of Taifa Care and the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA). He emphasised that the proposed Platform will not introduce new structures, but will align existing reform efforts, financing decisions, and multi-stakeholder actions to deliver more equitable health outcomes. The Health Policy Platform is designed to strengthen health financing by aligning domestic and external resources, accelerate the scale-up of high-impact innovations, and enhance performance management and accountability through data-driven tools and joint reviews. It will also prioritise maternal and newborn health, with a focus on underserved and high-burden regions, in line with national UHC commitments. The consultative process will continue over the coming weeks, with stakeholder inputs expected within nine days. These will be consolidated by the end of January, validated in early February, and the Platform is anticipated to be fully operational by March, marking a significant milestone in Kenya’s health sector reform agenda.

𝐊𝐄𝐍𝐘𝐀, 𝐂𝐇𝐀𝐈 𝐏𝐀𝐑𝐓𝐍𝐄𝐑 𝐓𝐎 𝐀𝐃𝐃𝐑𝐄𝐒𝐒 𝐅𝐔𝐍𝐃𝐈𝐍𝐆 𝐆𝐀𝐏𝐒 𝐀𝐍𝐃 𝐒𝐓𝐑𝐄𝐍𝐆𝐓𝐇𝐄𝐍 𝐇𝐄𝐀𝐋𝐓𝐇 𝐒𝐘𝐒𝐓𝐄𝐌𝐒 𝐑𝐄𝐒𝐈𝐋𝐈𝐄𝐍𝐂𝐄 The Principal Secretary for Medical Services, Dr. Ouma Oluga, today engaged with the leadership of the Clinton Health Access Initiative (CHAI), led by Global Director Dr. Gerald Macharia, to explore collaborative actions to bridge funding gaps in HIV and TB services occasioned by the USG stop-work order. CHAI outlined its support to the Ministry of Health and county governments, including spearheading a Resource Mapping exercise at the Ministry to enhance coordination of health sector resources. The organization has secured additional support for 12 months aimed at addressing priority short, medium, and long-term interventions already identified by the Ministry following an analysis of the impact of the funding cuts. Through this partnership, CHAI seeks to support the Ministry to respond to the immediate gaps while working towards a stronger, more resilient, and domestically driven health system. The efforts will focus on leveraging existing and alternative financing, advancing reforms to build an efficient and sustainable health system, and institutionalizing resource tracking to strengthen planning and service delivery continuity. Additionally, CHAI will work closely with the Ministry to explore non-traditional funding options, including public-private partnerships, optimize service delivery integration, and strengthen data analytics for better allocation of available resources to high-impact areas and populations in need. The partnership also aims to foster continuous engagement among stakeholders, donors, and implementing partners to enhance alignment and efficiency across the health sector. Present at the meeting were Dr. Solomon Matiko Riro, CHAI Associate Director for Health Financing; Victoria Wanjohi, CHAI; Dr. Andrew Mulwa, NASCOP; and Dr. Emmanuel Ayodi, PMU among others.

@KuiMuraya help me understand why the goverment will "proudly" auction country's brains, especially teachers! I imagine these must be the sharpest tools in the shed! A couple of years ago, brain drain used to be something to fight against, but now it is a government agenda.

Last year, @RasnaWarah penned this piece that aptly captures how arrogant the Kenyan rulling class has become. "They don’t care. In fact, they don’t even pretend to care. There is a Trump-like UTADO? quality... that is very scary". #REJECTFİNANCEBİLL2024 theelephant.info/opinion/2023/1…

How do we shape policy space (training, scope of practice, task-sharing, regulatory etc) for scale up of Point of Care Ultrasound (POCUS) in Kenya? How do we navigate the health financing landscape to enable access to POCUS by all pregnant women in Kenya? #MapemaNdioBest
