@NewsfromScience It is stunning how the thought of skepticism has become antithetical to thinking. When it comes to drugs with potentially lethal side effects skepticism is a good thing. Drugs should be looked at with a hard critical eye. (and that is not an antidrug comment)

@TheSGEM @Epictets1 @jonathanstea To say “Research on vaccines and autism" is a complete fallacy since they have NEVER done research on the entire vaccine schedule. You want to say thimerosal you can have a point for that but to say vaccines (all) that is a complete lie.

@Epictets1 @jonathanstea But the specific claim was “Research on vaccines and autism has been suppressed.” Do you think 1,200 studies suggest suppression?

Which vaccines and what context are you talking about? Btw I don’t prescribe to the argument that we should eschew something until some vague idealized “good study” is done — but rather prescribe to the idea that all available evidence should be critically evaluated to make current recommendations while identifying gaps in the literature for future studies to pursue. There is no perfect study, so that argument roughly applied could be used to imply anything is dangerous or at least “not sufficiently demonstrated as safe” no matter whether there is any substantial evidence for harm or not, and no matter how much evidence is available in current literature All studies have limitations and weaknesses, including randomized clinical trials, which is why we need to consider all available evidence, critically evaluated and appropriately weighted based on level of evidence, when making decisions about a particular intervention in a specific context

As I have been saying since it was first reported that Kennedy needs to stop being obviously anti-vax, he’s not going to. He will just devastate vaccination more quietly. I hate being right about this. nytimes.com/2026/05/11/hea…

This is outrageous.. Not a single person on my flight is masked up while we’re in the middle of a double pandemic (Covid + Hantavirus). I politely informed the flight attendant that this is a super spreader event. She just shrugged and walked away. I've already filed a formal complaint with the FAA and CDC. This is reckless and cannot stand. Masks save lives, the science is settled on that.

@drterrysimpson Why do you insist on showing your ignorance on subjects. The quote is correct and opposite of how you are trying to portray it.

Interesting how masks suddenly become useless when discussing public health, yet somehow every surgeon, cath lab team, and procedural cardiologist still masks up when they are standing over an open body or threading wires into a coronary artery. Medicine understands something the internet often forgets: protection is rarely absolute. Seatbelts do not prevent every death. Gloves do not prevent every infection. Masks are another layer, not magic. WE do know that reduction of viral load decreases morbidity of disease. Masks reduce fomites. To this day I wear a mask in every healthcare facility I enter - I want to minimize risk. I doubt this cardiologist wants me to operate on his patient without a mask
Joseph Marine@DrJMarine

“Long before the pandemic, gold-standard randomized controlled trials had repeatedly shown that masks offered little or no meaningful protection against the spread of respiratory viruses. When COVID-19 arrived, fresh trials were launched in hopes of settling the question. Instead, they largely confirmed the earlier findings: Masks produced, at best, marginal reductions in SARS-CoV-2 transmission, if any. Two major Cochrane reviews (in 2020 and in 2023), the gold standard for rigorous medical evidence synthesis, reached the same conclusion. Neither found convincing evidence that surgical masks meaningfully slowed the spread of respiratory viruses in real-world settings.”

@JeromeAdamsMD No, actually it is the corruption and fraud and malfeasance by scientists and doctors and public health workers that destroys the trust.

I really wish we would stop framing everything wrong in our health system as corruption and fraud and malfeasance by scientists and doctors and public health workers. It destroys trust in the system, destroys the morale of the people actually out there on the front lines, and truly does nothing to actually make us healthier.
