@teixeiramark25 Can you list one specific thing that you will do to lower costs? Most of Trump's policies have resulted in higher costs. The fact that Bernie is an idiot too is not a policy.

Dems get elected, enact policies that drive up the cost of living, run campaigns on making life “more affordable,” get re-elected and keep enacting policies that drive up the cost of living. It’s a vicious cycle, but voters can make it stop. Vote Red in November! foxnews.com/opinion/liz-pe…

@leedrutman Don't let the great be the enemy of the good. I have struggled to get people to pay attention and support simple reforms like open primaries. Proportional rep will be a very, very heavy lift.

Open primaries do nothing for independents other than letting them vote earlier for partisans they say they reject. If the folks running this org actually cared about independent voters, they'd support proportional representation, which gives those voters more real choices.
Open Primaries@OpenPrimaryUSA

🚨 47% of Americans now identify as political independents—the highest level in more than a decade of CNN polling. Nearly half the country no longer identifies with either major party. When will our election system catch up? cnn.com/2026/06/16/pol… #OpenPrimaries

@MichaelJGarman @gssasse Using a clever meme instead of actually addressing the points in Frum's tweet tells me you are a good politician, but neither a problem solver nor leader. Please be better than that if you end up in elected office.

@hexane360 @PeterBeinart Well played! I still hope criticism that someone is willing to put their real name behind based on listening for an hour will give someone pause.

@hexane360 @PeterBeinart And my reaction to him was after listening to him in an hour long podcast, not one tweet. Sadly I don't think many people (certainly neither the DSA or Maga crowds) listen to people they disagree with for an hour to give them a chance.

@hexane360 @PeterBeinart I know everyone thinks they are objective. But I have the number of times that facts have changed my view to prove it (not to mention a career that requires it).

@leedrutman He was a really bad case on which to draw conclusions. A typical independent candidate's main appeal is a new way of doing things. Cuomo represented the status quo, Mamdani the new. Plus, Cuomo had an enormous amount of baggage and was not likeable.

Both Mamdani and JD Vance have nothing but contempt for Friedrich Hayek, arguably the greatest economist of the 20th century. I am increasingly convinced that your opinion of Hayek is one of the single best indicators of where you actually stand in the political realignment.

@DKThomp If you are reading comments, I want to repeat mine from yesterday. You completely failed your listeners by not challenging Peter Beinart's idealized version of Hamas. As long as Hamas has their DSA supporters, they will never change and life will never improve for Palestinians.

I would love some feedback about my worries of an imminent AI-related market crash: Industrial bubbles are most common when firms get deep into debt. Even with declining free cash flow (chart 1 below), the AI hyperscalers still have less debt as a share of earnings than the typical S&P 500 company (chart 2). But on the institutional/retail investor side ... that's a different story. Look at Chart 3 (all from JPM). Investor borrowing is going crazy: - The amount of debt that investors are borrowing from brokerages to buy stocks, bonds, and other securities rose more than 50% in the last year to record $1.4 trillion. - Assets in high-risk leveraged exchange-traded funds have quadrupled in the last four years. Am I wrong, or does this make the odds of a major AI-related market crash getting alarmingly high in the coming months/year? Between leveraged ETF rebalancing and margin calls, I feel like one moderately bad earnings call—eg, which points to less forthcoming semi demand—could create a cascade of sell-offs And what makes this interesting is that you could have a significant market correction due to all this investor leverage, but it might not be a decisive judgment about the state of AI, at all, even if lots of people interpret it as a sign of a bubble.

@fightinbobbyl @MT_6226 Healthcare stock prices went up and trial lawyers celebrated when ACA passed. That should tell you all you need to know about how flawed an overhaul it was.

@MT_6226 the ACA (before the GOP gutted the individual mandate and SCOTUS allowed states to opt out of Medicaid expansion) + a strong public option (Medicare for Some who Might Want It) would at least put us in the global top 25, maybe in the "others receiving votes" category

Medicare for All is not going to happen because we’ve spent so long evolving on the path of private insurances, high healthcare utilization, decent wages/working conditions for healthcare staff, that you can’t just throw that away after all these decades.
Matthew Yglesias@mattyglesias

Medicare is very popular so “Medicare for All” is a good slogan, but the slogan badly underdetermines what the actual policy is and different descriptions of what you might mean end up polling very differently. zeteo.com/p/medicare-for…

@MT_6226 In Matt Mahan's CA governor run he talked about not asking people to pay for more taxes for anything until we can make govt run better. I realize it's really hard, but we need to do that for medicare before expanding it. And we need to start with kids, not more money for boomers.

@DKThomp I started your Israel podcast on the same page as you about Israel/Hamas. After listening to the delusional piece of garbage Beinart, I am way more concerned about DSA. The man justifies every dispicable Hamas and pretends antisemitism does not exist.

@Imright_1 @DavidAFrench I would have to know the source and methodology to comment on it. Regardless, when people are only given 2 options on the ballot and in the media, it's natural their views cluster around those options. Put a third option on the menu and in the news, and it will change real fast.

Please point to the "huge center" on the graphical representation that I provided. You can't, because it does not exist. It is true that many consider themselves "independent", but in practice they are not. It is a cowardly lie they tell themselves to avoid any accountability for the outcomes of their vote.

@DavidAFrench @sk_commonman Completely agree, but if the center-left and center-right ever came together to back a 3d party candidate like Joe Manchin against the extremes @SarahLongwell25 & the Bulwark would pitch a fit and double down on their support for even the most far left Dem nominee.

@Imright_1 @DavidAFrench You are part of the problem, still doing the left/right fingerpointing in respones to a point about how useless and stupid it is.. There is a huge, exhausted center. The primary system freezes them out. Help fix that instead of fingerpointing and we'll all benefit.

@LDrogen You keep making posts like that. I keep responding that organizations like @representus and @Fwd_Party are working to improve the election process and keep asking you to support them. You keep ignoring me or saying it has no chance. So why do you keep making those posts?
