Are you trying to defend the abolitionist position here? What's your point?

I can't help it, I have to steelman this position because I hate when so-called contrarian twitter is in consensus: People who believe in prison abolition are making a deontological claim about the morality of incarceration and retributive justice. Just as hard liner pro lifers don't believe abortion becomes moral in the cases of rape and incest, hard liner prison abolitionists don't believe there are a set of circumstances that justify state sanctioned violence. Disagree if you want but it's not hypocritical nor obfuscating to believe this or to change the conversation from utility to morality
