Great companies are not built during bull markets. They are built during difficult ones.
That is exactly what we have been doing at @playsolana: building, listening and evolving with our community.
The market has cooled down, but our ambition has not.
Over the past months, we have built a lot. We have been shipping, testing, challenging our assumptions and, most importantly, listening.
We are confident in our vision, but even more confident in the strength of our community.
We do not believe in excuses or blaming the market. We believe in solving problems, adapting quickly and turning every challenge into an opportunity.
If gaming has lost its spark, we will reignite it.
If NFTs have lost their purpose, we will give them one again.
If AI has the attention, we will use it to create real value.
And when our community speaks, we listen.
One request has come up over and over again.
Make the PSG1 more open.
This was not an easy decision.
From day 1, we have always been transparent about what the PSG1 was meant to be.
We never promised or advertised an unrestricted Android device.
We never claimed you would be able to install anything you wanted.
Our vision has always been clear: build the best handheld for Solana Gaming, powered by EchOS and designed around a seamless gaming experience instead of a generic Android interface.
That vision has not changed.
After months of discussion and internal debate, we have decided to evolve our approach.
The PSG1 is becoming more open.
Not because we have abandoned our vision.
Because we believe our users should have more freedom.
Over the coming months, we will work towards making the PSG1 a much more open Android-based device, giving owners the ability to do far more with their hardware.
The PSG1 is not just a gaming handheld.
It is a powerful Android device with hardware that competes with many flagship phones, and we want you to unlock its full potential.
That means that, over time, you will be able to:
- Install your own Android apps.
- Play games outside the PlayVerse ecosystem.
- Experiment with AI.
- Build and test your own software.
- Explore everything the hardware is capable of.
This does not mean we are moving away from gaming.
Quite the opposite.
Play Solana will continue to invest heavily in:
- EchOS
- PlayVerse
- Origins
- Eggy League
- First-party & Third-party games
- Developer tooling
- The overall Solana gaming ecosystem
Gaming remains our mission.
We are simply removing barriers that do not need to exist.
We also know that opening the platform comes with responsibilities.
We will make sure this transition does not compromise what makes Play Solana unique:
- The security of the device.
- The integrity of the ecosystem.
- The quality of the gaming experience.
- The long-term sustainability of the company.
- The health of the $PLAY economy.
Those things are non-negotiable.
This was not a quick decision.
It challenged many of our original assumptions.
But after listening to hundreds of conversations with the community, we believe it is the right direction.
We are building an ecosystem, not just a console.
