@DocPriyamMD I think there's are 2 main reasons. For some their identity is solely wrapped up in being a (PhD) doctor. For others, "I have full respect for the grind, BUT..." doesn't feel like you do. I'm not saying you do/don't. If just feels that way. Human nature then makes them defensive.

Medical Doctors: Hey, I'm the cardiologist keeping you alive, just call me Alex. PhDs: Please refer to me as Dr. Monica, I did my thesis on ancient pottery. Look, I know the word 'Doctor' comes from the Latin docere (to teach). I know academics had the title first and I have full respect for the grind. But why are they always the ones defending the title like their lives depend on it? If someone screams "Is there a doctor on the plane?!" absolutely nobody is looking for a Doctor of Philosophy

I borrowed 50,000 from my brother and 50,000 from my sister to buy a house that cost 97,000. After the purchase, I had 3,000 left over. I paid back 1,000 to my brother and 1,000 to my sister, and kept 1,000. Now I owe 49,000 to my brother and 49,000 to my sister. 49,000 + 49,000 = 98,000, plus the 1,000 I kept is 99,000. Where is the missing 1,000?

@GBUnitedx He was not considered an elite super star hence your what was his name. However, you could tell he was in the lineup day in and day out because of his work ethic. Imagine if the team's superstars worked as hard as Blind did.

▪️He joined Manchester United in 2014 from Ajax for £13.8 million and made an instant impact by becoming a regular starter and scoring important goals. ▪️After suffering a knee ligament injury in late 2014, he returned in 2015 and adapted to several positions, including defensive midfield, left back and centre back. ▪️During the 2015–16 season, he mainly played as a centre back and delivered strong performances, including a goal and man-of-the-match display against Liverpool. ▪️In the 2016–17 season, he competed for places in defence but still contributed at left back and scored against Sunderland. He also helped United win the UEFA Europa League final against former club Ajax. ▪️If you remember him just say Good morning

@TimSullivan714 Giving grades is a way of signaling. Employers should be able to distinguish a C at Harvard is different than a typical institution. Inflating grades provides less information.

Can’t work up much outrage about grade inflation at Harvard. If a university accepts less than 5% of applicants, does it not follow that its student body is likely populated by a disproportionate number of brainiacs?

Bottom Line: The absolute risk reduction for these specific conditions is entirely eclipsed by the staggering risk of cardiopulmonary disease and systemic malignancies. We don't study this to prescribe cigarettes. We study it to understand the pathways.

Me: Tell me some diseases where smoking has a protective/beneficial effect? Student: But sir, smoking is bad... how can it ever be protective? Me: Definitely it is bad, should never be encouraged. But medicine is full of paradoxes that we as doctors need to know. Now tell the answer Silence in the ward

@PhdDfs In grad school I had a student show up for a final exam. This was literally the first time I saw him. I doubled check to make sure he was in my class. I then told him since he had zero on everything else, there was no need to take the exam. He said okay and then got up and left.

Someone took my 3-hr final exam (27 pages, unique instructions) in a room of 160 students, with me doing a pre-exam speech, shaking hands with everyone as they finished, without being registered for my class. No cheating, just never saw something out of place. Future is bright 🤔

I’m a high school counselor. We have college application fees. $75 each. School pays for low-income students. But there’s a limit. Two applications. That’s it. Student came to me. Senior. Brilliant. First-generation. Wanted to apply to eight schools. “I’ll pay for two. You need to pay for the other six.” She had nothing. Family had nothing. $450 she didn’t have. Started crying. “I’ll just apply to two then.” “Which two?” She couldn’t choose. Dream school. Safety school.

@lpky @Weir4Liberty I understand the distinction between public and private organizations, but it surely doesn't feel like it is in the spirit of liberty. But if you want to have that narrow notion, you are free to do so.

Tonight I sent the following email to the Libertarian National Committee requesting a dress code for business conventions addition to the policy manual to be applied in Grand Rapids and future national conventions. Members of the Libertarian National Committee, I am requesting consideration of a proposed addition to the Libertarian Party Policy Manual establishing a baseline professional dress standard for participation in official proceedings at the upcoming Grand Rapids National Convention and all future conventions. This proposal is not intended to impose ideological conformity or unnecessary rigidity, but rather to maintain a minimum standard of professionalism and decorum during the Party’s highest governing function. I respectfully request that a member of the LNC introduce the following language for consideration: "Proposed Policy Manual Addition — Convention Decorum and Attire Standards Section X.X — Delegate and Speaker Attire Requirements In order to preserve a professional atmosphere during all official sessions of the Libertarian Party National Convention, the following minimum attire standards shall apply to all delegates, alternates, speakers, candidates, and individuals addressing the convention body from a microphone during official business sessions: -Men shall wear collared shirts or equivalent business casual attire. -Closed-toe shoes shall be required for all participants engaging in convention floor business. -Business casual attire shall be considered acceptable minimum dress. -Neatly groomed facial hair shall be permitted. -Attire commonly understood to be intentionally disruptive, overtly theatrical, fetish-oriented, or materially inconsistent with the professional conduct of convention proceedings shall not be permitted during official business sessions. -Biological males shall not wear dresses, skirts, or attire traditionally recognized as women’s wear while participating in official convention business or addressing the body. The Chair, or any officer designee, shall have authority to deny microphone privileges, voting privileges, or floor participation to individuals not meeting these minimum standards until compliance is achieved. These standards shall apply only during official convention business sessions and shall not govern private social events, hospitality functions, or unofficial gatherings associated with convention activities." Regardless of differing views on culture or presentation, I believe most reasonable delegates agree that basic standards of professionalism strengthen the credibility and seriousness of the Party’s national proceedings. Thank you for your timely consideration of this matter! Respectfully, Ben Weir

@dvazz @johnamonaco @yuuiichive When I was 7, reading aloud, I mispronounced society as soashety. The teacher laughed and corrected me. I felt humiliated and have never forgotten it. Now I realise how well-read I was - a 7yo using understanding of social to guess a new word. That teacher was an ass.

@johnamonaco @yuuiichive When people mispronounce words but use them correctly, it's a sign of being well read. They read them but don't hear them. Clearly the person who asked you how to pronounce school is not well read, or perhaps they would have realized that.

Truly disappointing support Whenever I use your chat online, I know more about the products than those who are intended to help me. Some issues are time sensitive, but we have no way to address that, & while you have been a little more responsive in the past, you aren't today!
