Apple has removed Lebanese village names in Southern Lebanon. As Israel invades, they are already setting the state to justify occupation. I’ve never seen something like this.

⭕️ Israel has not prosecuted a single killing of a Palestinian civilian in the West Bank since 2020, Guardian analysis finds No Israeli soldier, police officer, or settler has been charged for killing a Palestinian civilian in the occupied West Bank since the start of this decade, a Guardian review of legal data and public records shows. At least 1,100 Palestinian civilians have been killed there since 2020, more than a quarter of them children, according to UN data. Dozens of former Israeli security chiefs, including two former military heads, five former Mossad and Shin Bet directors, and four ex-police commissioners, have signed a letter warning that "almost daily" attacks on Palestinians amount to "organized activity" by people "wearing uniforms, who shoot at innocent people and burn the property and homes of civilians." They warned that failure to address what they called "Jewish terrorism" poses an existential threat to Israel. This month alone, Israeli settlers and police killed 10 Palestinian civilians in the West Bank, including a family of four shot in the head, among them brothers aged five and seven, as they returned from a Ramadan shopping trip. According to legal rights group Yesh Din, between 2020 and 2025: ▪️over 96% of police investigations into settler violence concluded without an indictment ▪️Of 368 cases, only eight ended in full or partial convictions ▪️Palestinians filed 1,746 complaints against Israeli soldiers in the same period, including over 600 related to killings. Less than 1% resulted in charges

During the first airing of my Star Trek series where a kiss was objectionable; many southern stations pulled the episode & condemned the show. Using today’s vernacular it would absolutely be called“woke DEI crap”because it went against “norms” of society for its time. Not a lot seems to have changed.🤷🏼😑

Ciekawostka z Ukrainy.

Very interesting footage from Russians indicating that Ukrainian Forces use laser light beam to fry fiber optic on "waiter" drones. Quite unexpected turn of the warfare, take notes.

It's depressing how widely shared and read this is. It's AI-generated word salad posted by someone with a vested interest in spreading AI hype. AI is "big," I guess, but its effects will be much more complicated and variegated than this "essay" implies.

The claim that Benito Mussolini made Italy's trains run on time remains one of history's most persistent myths, despite having no basis in reality. This piece of propaganda emerged during the 1920s as part of the Fascist regime's broader effort to project competence and modernity. Foreign observers, particularly visiting journalists and diplomats who experienced improved service on showcase routes, repeated the claim without investigation. The myth served Mussolini's political needs perfectly—it suggested that authoritarian efficiency could solve problems democracy couldn't handle. In truth, Italian railways showed minimal improvement under Fascist rule. The rail system's most significant modernization occurred before Mussolini's 1922 March on Rome, during the Liberal era governments. When the Fascists did invest in railways, they prioritized military transport capacity over civilian punctuality. Mussolini's government manipulated statistics and restricted which trains journalists could observe, creating an illusion of efficiency. Independent assessments from the period show Italian trains remained as unreliable as before, with delays, overcrowding, and poor maintenance continuing throughout Fascist rule. The myth's staying power reveals how effectively the regime controlled its international image. Fascist officials arranged carefully managed tours for foreign visitors, ensuring they rode specific trains at specific times. These propaganda efforts succeeded because many Western observers wanted to believe that strong leadership could impose order on chaos—an appealing narrative during the economic and political turbulence of the 1920s and 1930s. Writers and politicians across Europe and America repeated the claim, often as grudging praise: "Say what you will about Mussolini, but he made the trains run on time." The railway myth became shorthand for a dangerous bargain—trading freedom for supposed efficiency. This framing ignored both that the efficiency was fictional and that the human cost of Fascism extended far beyond inconvenience. Mussolini's regime imprisoned political opponents, invaded Ethiopia with chemical weapons, enacted antisemitic laws, and ultimately dragged Italy into a catastrophic war that killed hundreds of thousands. The persistent focus on an imaginary transportation achievement trivializes these crimes while suggesting authoritarian government offers practical benefits. The myth survived Mussolini's downfall because it serves a broader narrative purpose. People continue citing it as evidence that dictatorships "get things done" despite democratic inefficiency. This ignores that authoritarian regimes typically excel at propaganda, not actual governance. Modern fact-checking has thoroughly debunked the trains claim, yet it persists in popular discourse—proof that compelling stories often outlive contradictory evidence. The myth endures as a cautionary tale about propaganda's power and society's willingness to accept comforting falsehoods about authority. © History Oasis #archaeohistories

Now that everyone is an expert on curing pancreatic cancer in mice, not rats - I want to add some context that goes beyond the headline. You will want to read this. Cancer is cured in mice all the time. Thousands of times. ~90% of those “cures” fail in humans. Why? Because mice are: Genetically simpler. Treated earlier. Short-lived. Not humans. Mice are a filter - not a finish line. Yes, this study matters. It comes from the Spanish National Cancer Research Centre. Yes, it’s pancreatic cancer - one of the deadliest there is. Yes, full tumor regression is impressive. But here’s what it actually means: “This approach is now good enough to risk years, trials, and millions of euros on.” Not: “Cancer is solved.” What happens next? More animal work. Toxicology. Phase I (safety). Phase II (maybe works). Phase III (beats standard care?). Maybe 8-10 years if everything goes right. The real damage isn’t failed drugs. It’s failed expectations. Every “cured cancer in mice” headline trains the public to believe: Cures are being hidden. Progress should be fast. Scientists are lying when reality hits. That’s how trust erodes. Bottom line: This is how real cancer progress looks. Messy. Slow. Risky. Incremental. Not miracles. Not conspiracies. Just science - doing the hard work.

In a normal world, this should be an immense scandal in Europe. Le Monde has a long article (lemonde.fr/international/…) describing the hellish life of Nicolas Guillou, a French judge at the ICC in The Hague, due to U.S. sanctions punishing him for authorizing arrest warrants against Netanyahu and Gallant for war crimes in Gaza. Guillou's daily existence has been transformed into a Kafkaesque nightmare. He cannot: open or maintain accounts with Google, Amazon, Apple, or any US company; make hotel reservations (Expedia canceled his booking in France hours after he made it); conduct online commerce, since he can't know if the packaging is American; use any major credit card (Visa, Mastercard, Amex are all American); access normal banking services, even with non-American banks, as banks worldwide close sanctioned accounts; conduct virtually any financial transaction. He describes it as being "economically banned across most of the planet," including in his own country, France, and where he works, the Netherlands. That's the real shocking aspect of this: the Americans are: - punishing a European citizen - for doing his job in Europe - applying laws Europe officially supports - at an institution based in Europe - that Europe helped create and fund and Europe is not only doing essentially nothing to protect him, they're actively enforcing America's sanctions against their own citizen - European banks closing his accounts, European companies refusing him service, European institutions standing by while Washington destroys a European judge's life on European soil. Again, in a normal world, European leaders and citizens should be absolutely outraged about this. But we've so normalized the hollowing out of European sovereignty that the sight of a European citizen being economically executed on European soil for upholding European law is treated, at best, as an unfortunate technical complication in transatlantic relations.

‼️ Unremovable Israeli Spyware Found on Samsung Devices Samsung faces backlash over AppCloud, an Israeli-developed app pre-installed on budget Galaxy A and M series devices. Investigations reveal the app is embedded in the operating system, preventing full removal. Even when disabled, AppCloud remains on the device, reappears after updates, and can covertly install additional software.

Mamdani: Yesterday, Andrew Cuomo laughed and agreed when a radio host said that I would cheer another 9/11. Yesterday, Eric Adams said that we “can’t let our city become Europe.” He compared me to violent extremists, and he lied when he said that our movement seeks to burn churches and destroy communities. The day before that, Curtis Sliwa slandered me from a debate stage when he claimed that I support global jihad. And every day, Super PAC ads imply that I am a terrorist or mock the way I eat, push polls that ask New Yorkers questions like whether they support invented proposals to make halal mandatory, or political cartoons that represent my candidacy as an airplane hurtling towards the World Trade Center. But I do not want to use this moment to speak to them any further. I want to use this moment to speak to the Muslims of this city. I want to speak to the memory of my aunt, who stopped taking the subway after September 11th because she did not feel safe in her hijab.  I want to speak to the Muslim who works for our city—whether they teach in our schools or walk the beat for the NYPD, New Yorkers who all make daily sacrifices on behalf of this city, only to see their leaders spit in their face. I want to speak to every child who grows up in New York marked as the Other, who is randomly selected in a way that rarely feels random, who feels that they carry a stain that can never be cleaned. Growing up in the shadow of 9/11, I have known what it means to live with an undercurrent of suspicion. I will always remember the disdain I faced, the way my name could immediately become “Mohammad,” and how I could return to my city only to be asked in a double mirrored room at the airport if I had any plan of attacking it. And since I was very young, I have known that I was spared the worst of it. I was never pressured to be an informant like classmates of mine. I have never had the word ‘terrorist’ spray-painted on my garage, as one of my aides has. My mosque has never been set on fire. To be Muslim in New York is to expect indignity. But indignity does not make us distinct—there are many who face it. It is the tolerance of that indignity that does.
