Did Mayor Sutcliffe write this? 8,921 people completed the 2023 survey and 88% were satisfied with the QED active use program and over 90% supported the active use program in Gatineau Park, on the Kichi Zībī Mīkan and the Sir George-Étienne Cartier Parkway. #Ottawa

So @fordnation is slow walking $10 a day childcare but can privatize booze sales at the cost of $1B in days. People need to wake up.

NEW: Government by Gmail: Ontario Premier Doug Ford’s chief of staff used private email for “political discussions,” Global News has learned. We’ve viewed emails that show how government-related business is being conducted on Gmail. globalnews.ca/news/10523523/… #onpoli

Ford wants to force people to be hooked on expensive, dirty fossil gas. But heat pumps are cheaper and cleaner. That’s why more people are installing heat pumps than gas furnaces in the US. That’s why heat pump sales are growing by 40% in the EU. Ford is imposing higher costs and more pollution. 2/4 #onpoli

I voted NO to the govt’s bill to subsidize Enbridge to expand fossil gas hook-ups because there are cheaper alternatives for consumers like heat pumps and because we are in a climate emergency. Ford chose to support gas giant Enbridge, Greens chose to support the people. 1/4 #onpoli

@Ottawa_Steve You could make a decent estimate but they're treating development as static when it's actually variable that will 100% decrease.

Am I totally off base or is Cllr Curry's question not relevant? If dev charges go up by as much as staff say, surely you can't make a good calculus of how much it'll bring in, bc it would discourage house building. Whereas the fed $ is cash to help build homes. No?
Spencerpress@Spencerpress

The City of Ottawa's development-charge discussion is a mess, yet council is somehow supposed to come up with a coherent plan. @Randall_Denley dives in to the controversy. #ottcity #ottnews @OttawaCitizen ottawacitizen.com/opinion/denley…

So you can set up a “f@ck trudeau” rally and camp out for months in Ottawa, the border or on the side of the hwy , but two days of “Free Palestine” and they send in the Billy clubs? Since when does our freedom to protest depend on which side of the political spectrum you’re on?

@mills_simon @RyanJones Hopefully we are finally seeing a return to the recognition that not every good and service should be exclusively provided by the market. Public broadcasters, public builders, etc.

How do we fix news? The real news is behind unprofitable paywalls that people aren't buying. The fake news is free and abundant. Real journalists need money - but since news isn't profitable the news turns to spammy affiliate posts, coupons, clickbait, and selling sponsored content to afford them. now that Google is cracking down on that stuff, how do we pay journalists a fair wage and not lose real news? Should news be nonprofit? There's an argument there. I don't like state-run for obvious reasons. What's the solution?

By 2026, 4.4M people in Ontario will not have access to a family doctor. Meanwhile, @fordnation and @SylviaJonesMPP claim “there is no concern of a diminished supply of physicians” in our province. So, what’s really going on here? 🧵 (1/7) #onpoli #onhealth

@RyanJones The solution is publicly funded. BBC, CBC etc are publicly funded, journalists get paid, quality of news is high. News as a public service works pretty well imo
