Show up before sunrise at a lease road no one’s talked about in years. Talk to the old geologist who still swears the logs mean something everyone else missed. Listen to the landman who’s heard every rumor in three counties. Spud the well. Let the bit wander a little.
Be open to the possibility that the map is wrong, the structure’s deeper, the gas wetter, the story better than anyone expected. Or worse. Sometimes a dry hole tells you more than a gusher.
Run the logs slowly. Tip the mud engineer. Check in on your crew. Check in on yourself.
