Robert S. Mueller III left his life of privilege at an Ivy League school to be a Marine at the height of Vietnam. Connected families often used contacts to avoid military service. Lieutenant Mueller served with great honor, earning a Bronze Star for valor and a Purple Heart🇺🇸

While Trump dodged the draft, Robert Mueller volunteered for the Marines after graduating Princeton. He was awarded a Bronze Star with combat V, rescuing a wounded Marine while under fire. He was later shot in the thigh, awarded a Purple Heart, and returned to lead his platoon.

A few books on Iran from my shelves that may help provide context in evaluating the current conflict to include TARGETED: BEIRUT, my first non-fiction work written with historian and Pulitzer Prize finalist James M. Scott.  There are lessons in the pages of history.   I read some of these selections in the SEAL Teams in preparation for deployments to the Middle East and I’ve used others as research for novels in my post-military life, specifically for THE DEVIL’S HAND.   Check out the blog section of my website for more. officialjackcarr.com/jacks-recommen…   What books on Iran or the Broader Middle East do you recommend?

This is exciting. I've written a movie screenplay called WINSTON & JOE. To be made by these great producers 6th & Idaho. It is the story of the clash, crisis & conciliation of Churchill & Stalin at their August 1942 meeting. In our age of autocrats, it could not be more relevant. They almost fell out which would have destroyed the Grand Alliance. This is a study of power but it is also an unexpected love story between two tough warlords who meet, who argue and then charm each other. These are brilliant parts for great actors but the story also includes (unexpectedly) some wonderful female role including Stalin's teenage daughter and his mistress-housekeeper... @TheFeralJew Count me skeptical that this ends well for the U.S. But I hope it does.

My cynical side says leaders are never honest, for reasons both defensible and not. It’s also possible it’s not dishonesty, just shit messaging. But between Irans longstanding sincere push to develop nuclear weapons, their antagonism towards the United States, their usefulness to and alliance with China, and their current weakness, I’m big in favor of crushing them now, to whatever degree possible.

When you say it out loud, “The Iran War,” it becomes an even tougher sell.

@TheFeralJew No, but when leaders aren’t honest with their people about the reason the war is starting then often the war doesn’t go well. We’ll have to see about this one.

@elliotackerman Then that sounds like a pretty damn good time to attack. Some reason to wait until they’re strong?

@TheFeralJew Yeah, I have a hard believing this war is about the imminent nuke and more about the regime being at its weakest in decades.

If you are interested in my analysis of the current conflict with Iran, you can catch me on any of my ten media appearances today.  As with any issue, my recommendation is that we all spend some time in the pages of history.  This video is a rundown of some of the books that have added to my understanding of the Middle East.  I am sure I missed a few – what are some of the books you have read that can help add context to today’s problem set?

The current activity near the Strait of Hormuz has me thinking of 2034: A Novel of the Next World War by @elliotackerman and @stavridisj — a disturbingly plausible look at how fast miscalculation can spiral into catastrophe. Fiction that feels less fictional by the day.
OSINTdefender@sentdefender

The Russian Steregushchiy-class corvette “Stoikiy” has arrived in the Iranian port of Bandar Abbas in the Strait of Hormuz ahead of upcoming naval exercises later this week with the Iranian Navy and Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) in the Gulf of Oman.
