The bad: Illini blow a 15 pt second half lead. Illini are struggling to close out games. They have a hard time stopping good guards, drivers or shooters.
The good: they will be a 3 seed. They will be rested. They should be pissed and ready to go. They can beat anybody.

I grew up going to games my mother worked for coach Henson and Kruger.
They never make the free throws, and always play down to competition, but never play up to elite teams.

My below post on this Illinois basketball team feels even more applicable now.
Illinois was ranked #5 headed to Michigan State and looked like a real contender. Five weeks later, they look defeated, complacent, and soft.
Yes, the games have been close. Yes, they have shown glimmers of dominance. That said, the runs given up and the lack of urgency and confidence continue to show themselves. It is infuriating, and quite frankly, pathetic,
Up 15+ to UCLA, lose. Up 15 to Wisconsin, lose.
At this point, you have to question what kind of pulse the coaches have on this team. They are utterly pathetic in OT games and choke big leads.
One last dance for this team to not make this season an utter disappointment.

Here’s where I’m at with this Illinois team. Honestly, they share a lot of parallels with last years team, albeit, a better version of that team: - Star freshman guard - Boswell backcourt-mate - Gets a ton of hype, described as having a high ceiling - Go to Michigan State and lose - Fall off the railing a bit. - Lose their biggest games to the tougher teams. The sad thing is, I really like this team, especially compared to last years. But, if guys like Tomi, Boswell, etc. aren’t careful, their legacy will be disappointment, not success. This team isn’t scaring anyone at this point. Go back to crashing the boards, making the hustle plays, and moving the ball to find the best shot. They now have a short window to create better legacies. Hopefully it will be that, and not another early exit.
