@rumpfshaker I tried to buy a low-tech black-and-white printer. It only printed on one side of paper, and it broke down. I hate printers. They are the bane of my existence. Someone should sell disposable printers. "It's $99. You'll probably get six months out of it, then come back."

Disgraceful. But by now, par for the course. #WeimarAmerica (I know, I know: "But you supported him in 2024!" True. Democrats are even worse - Rachel Levine, y'all? Still, general support for his admin does not require silence before the violation of common human decency.)

Just 3 days ago Trump was awfully concerned about the “pallets of cash” sent to Iran a decade ago, but is now going to give them nearly 10x that amount in the middle of a war. Clown show doesn’t begin to describe it.
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent@SecScottBessent

Iran is the head of the snake for global terrorism, and through President Trump’s Operation Epic Fury, we are winning this critical fight at an even faster pace than anticipated. In response to Iran’s terrorist attacks against global energy infrastructure, the Trump Administration will continue to deploy America’s economic and military might to maximize the flow of energy to the world, strengthen global supply, and seek to ensure market stability. Today, the Department of the Treasury is issuing a narrowly tailored, short-term authorization permitting the sale of Iranian oil currently stranded at sea. At present, sanctioned Iranian oil is being hoarded by China on the cheap. By temporarily unlocking this existing supply for the world, the United States will quickly bring approximately 140 million barrels of oil to global markets, expanding the amount of worldwide energy and helping to relieve the temporary pressures on supply caused by Iran. In essence, we will be using the Iranian barrels against Tehran to keep the price down as we continue Operation Epic Fury. This temporary, short-term authorization is strictly limited to oil that is already in transit and does not allow new purchases or production. Further, Iran will have difficulty accessing any revenue generated and the United States will continue to maintain maximum pressure on Iran and its ability to access the international financial system. So far, the Trump Administration has been working to bring around 440 million additional barrels of oil to the global market, undercutting Iran’s ability to leverage its disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz. President Trump’s pro-energy agenda has driven U.S. oil and gas production to record levels, strengthening energy security and lowering fuel costs. Any short-term disruption now will ultimately translate into longer-term economic gains for Americans – because there is no prosperity without security.

@clairlemon @S___Elliott The Shining is awful! I know I am in the minority, but Jack Nicholson so ruined The Shining that Stephen King wanted (and I believe got) a remake. Nicholson also ruined One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest for Ken Kesey.

Well, Charles, your story actually doesn’t even name Ron DeSantis and Randy Levine as the leaders of this commission. Regardless, it would have been for a commission that the president of the United States organizes to actually be bipartisan on an issue this sensitive. You don’t have to have Gavin Newsom on it, but there are any number of Democratic governors with SEC or Big Ten teams within their states that should’ve been invited to the White House meeting a couple of weeks ago. As your story says there is actually bipartisan congressional interest in legitimate reforms on both the NIL and the transfer portal issue so why not go that bipartisan route? Why is the POTUS trying to impose executive orders on national college sports by federal fiat? And, again, given the president’s need to put his name, not just on buildings, but on commemorative coins, monuments, national parks, etc., (on the taxpayers dime, mind you), the hypocrisy is astounding. You don’t have to make Gavin Newsom the bogeyman for everybody to see that. The president wants to issue these executive orders when it’s very clear he doesn’t know the specifics of the topic at hand. At the White House meeting, he was stunned to learn that this has already been adjudicated at the Supreme Court and the NCAA lost 9-0. Brett Kavanaugh — not some crazy woke legal mind — basically asked the NCAA if it seriously thought its then-business model dependent upon undercompensated labor (the student athletes) was constitutionally sustainable? In what industry should that be considered fair? Finally, this new model — the NIL and transfer portal program — allowed a program like Indiana, a laughing stock in college football for the better part of a century, to rise to the top and make the final four of the college football playoffs in consecutive seasons and become champion this year. It was a great story that captured the entire country and almost impossible under the old system. You’re supportive of trying to undermine that?
Charles Gasparino@CGasparino

Umm did Robert take a look at who is running the commission in charge of this? I take DeSantis and Randy Levine over anything on the other side. Could you imagine Gavin Newsom -- who allowed homelessness to grow, illegals to tap into his welfare state and cant put out a fire--trying to solve something like this?

@RobGeorge If I can just step in here with my unpopular opinion, the best thing colleges could do right now for themselves and for the sport would be to cajole players into forming a union. That way, salaries and *actually going to school* could be negotiated.

I get crap from my football-crazy followers whenever I say this, but this sort of thing says terrible things about our priorities as a society. Children should go to school, every day, and we should remember that the NFL is totally unimportant in the scheme of things.

Pittsburgh Public Schools will operate remotely from April 22–24 as the city prepares to host the 2026 NFL Draft. With road closures, heightened security, parking restrictions, and heavy traffic expected, the city believes remote learning is the best option during that time.

Totally true story. When my mom was in high school a friend convinced her to go TP 🧻 a house in a wealthy area. She went out with her friends late at night and chucked toilet paper all around this yard. Suddenly, a porch light turned on and the figure of a man appeared as they hid behind some bushes. “It’s time to go home girls. My hands are registered lethal weapons!” That man was Chuck Norris.
