Postal workers are giving the thumbs-up to a new contract, casting their ballots overwhelmingly to approve a tentative agreement after more than two years of labour strife. The union representing some 55,000 Canada Post employees says they voted more than 85 per cent in favour of the five-year deal, which includes wage increases of 6.5 per cent and three per cent in the first two years. Impaired driving charges laid following collision #Barrie Barrie Police charged one individual with impaired driving following a two-vehicle collision in a south end parking lot. On Thurs., April 2, 2026, at around 10:20 p.m., police responded to Anne Street South after receiving a report of a collision involving a suspected impaired driver. No injuries were reported. Officers arrived and spoke with an involved driver, who displayed signs of impairment, including being unsteady on his feet and glassy eyes. Police formed reasonable grounds to conduct an Approved Screening Device test which resulted in a fail. The accused was arrested at the scene and transported to Barrie Police Service Headquarters, where further breath testing was conducted by a qualified breath technician. The results confirmed the driver was well over the legal alcohol limit. Officers also discovered a half empty container of alcohol inside the vehicle. The 35-year-old Barrie man has been charged with: Impaired Operation (Criminal Code) Operation While Impaired – Blood Alcohol Concentration Over 80 mg (Criminal Code) Drive Motor Vehicle with Open Container of Liquor (Liquor Licence and Control Act) Additionally, the vehicle was seized for seven days, and his driver’s licence was suspended for 90 days. Anyone who suspects an impaired driver is encouraged to immediately call 911. Occurrence #BA26021039
