At a grocery store, a guy reached up to grab something I couldn’t, so I said, “Thanks, you’re a lifesaver.” That was it. That was the whole interaction. But then he stayed. Started asking what I was cooking, if I lived nearby, if I was “always this nice.” I laughed it off, moved aisles… and somehow, he kept reappearing. My quick errand turned into me checking over my shoulder, holding my keys a little tighter, pretending to be busy on my phone. I left without half the things I came for. It’s strange… how something meant to be soft and human can turn heavy so fast. And people still wonder why we hesitate.
