@The_Suburbanist Development patterns follow the transportation infrastructure not the other way around. Build transit, density follows. Build highways, and end up trying to sprawl our way out of a housing crisis to no avail.

Transit supporters would be more credible if they acknowledged that rail transit isn't necessary outside of NYC. And especially from Philadelphia on down. And really especially in those tiny-circle places in the upper left corner. That doesn't mean that it should all be dismantled. But it does mean that there's even less of an argument for non-user support.

The entrance to the Brooklyn Bridge should be one of the most majestic places in NYC. Instead, it’s a chaotic mess designed to move cars. This plan is a good first step. But let’s finish the job and reimagine this space for the 10 million pedestrians and cyclists who actually use it every year.

NEW: Mayor Mamdani’s Department of Transportation will finally follow through on a mothballed 2024 plan to build a new and improved Manhattan-side bike lane and pedestrian entrance to the Brooklyn Bridge. nyc.streetsblog.org/2026/03/27/mam…

@AnthonyCumia Your argument is that we should criminalize cycling infractions and have the NYPD use cycling enforcement as a dragnet for catching illegal immigrants? That's your plan, you absolute brainstem?

This is because the majority of delivery riders are illegal aliens. Mamdani doesn’t want them to have to go to court where ICE might grab them up and deport them. Like many dem run cities, protecting illegals is more important than citizens safety.

New York City's criminal crackdown on cyclists finally ends this Friday, after nearly a year of forcing cyclists to go to criminal court for the same infractions that'd earn car drivers a moving violation. Here's what you need to know.

@IsaiahLCarter Nobody's trying to take your car. But if you want to gum up my neighborhood's streets with it, pollute my children's air with it, and tell me that my neighborhood has to dedicate acres of valuable land to storing it—yeah, you're gonna have to pay for the privilege. Sorry.

I ride the Metro-North and the NYC Subway every day. And frankly, I don't always feel like sitting next to anyone else. I don't take an Uber every day. And wouldn't. I want the option to take my wife to work, so that SHE doesn't have to get on a bus full of the mentally ill savages whose existence YOU enable. Because individualism disgusts and scares you, having MY own car is something YOU'RE trying to remove from existence. Like Neo said in the Matrix Reloaded (2003), "Choice. The problem is choice." And there it is. YOU and the rest of your fellow urbanist degenerates want to take that choice from me. Yes, ME. A Black man; a blue-collar Union worker. You HATE me. You hate the fact that I exist. You hate the fact that men like @progressiveact exist. You would take away my right to individual movement AND abolish private property in one stroke, because you're a filthy fucking Communist. You are hostis humanae generis. And you must be stopped.

@Mapping_Buckeye @micah_erfan There is no way you earnestly believe that many people were killed at demonstrations following the murder of George Floyd. You're talking about ten bodies, tops. The murder spike began well before GF's death. Mass joblessness and school closures are the more likely causes.

@ethanisimon @micah_erfan I wasn’t crediting Trump with the huge crash(though a very small part is because of the deportations)… I was just pointing out that the 2020 jump was because of the BLM riots, not something he specifically did. Also, the gap was beyond just 2021.

@Mapping_Buckeye @micah_erfan I do not dispute that gaps existed in the FBI's dataset in 2021. I also do not think the president of the United States exerts much, if any influence on the murder rate, or the clearance rates of local police departments. You are the one who wishes to credit Trump for some reason

@ethanisimon @micah_erfan Well there are a few causes: 1. No BLM 2. Many police departments did not provide data, or provide incomplete data, to the FBI for the crime statistics. The Biden admin was generally more pro rehabilitation, such as the second chance act, which impacted it as well.

@ethanisimon @micah_erfan I see you think something must be either 100% one way or 100% the other. When the actions of the president have an impact on the murder rate(such as investing into crime prevention or rehabilitation), then they can get the credit. When they have nothing to do with it? They don’t

After 25 years of planning, Baltimore will most likely get a bus instead of a light rail line that was already federally approved and shovel ready in 2015 because Governor Hogan cancelled the project to shift money to road projects. This is why we can’t have nice things.

@RealPhilycheese @the_transit_guy I do not feel it makes sense to shovel money at a project that will be too slow to bring middle- and upper-income riders into the system. The long term sustainability of the system—and of Baltimore—depends on it. But then again, I'm laughably dumb, so what do I know?

@AlphaBlk42120 @the_transit_guy We would be better off creating a plan for a grade-separated line that we can bring shovel-ready to a new admin on January 20th, 2029. The failure of Schaefer's light rail set actual transit in Baltimore back a generation.
