@Daroff Serious question - what's your response to at least a third of Jewish voters and half of young Jewish voters voting for Zohran?

Last night’s election in New York City marks a grim milestone. The city with the United States’ largest Jewish population will now be led by a man whose record and rhetoric reflect hostility toward Israel and the Jewish people. Zohran Mamdani’s elevation to Gracie Mansion reminds us that antisemitism remains a clear and present danger, even in the places where American Jews have long felt most secure. There can be no compromise with an ideology that demonizes or ostracizes Jews and Israelis. We remain unwavering in our commitment to the safety and dignity of the Jewish community. Our response to this ominous moment will be to strengthen activism, advocacy, and coordination across New York’s Jewish communities, ensuring that every institution and family feels supported and protected. We will demand moral clarity and decisive action from every level of government, mobilizing Jewish leadership and civic partners to ensure that New York remains a place of safety, strength, and solidarity for our people.

This is so embarrassing. What "cherished values" do you disagree with Zohran on? That all people should be equal? That apartheid is wrong? That genocidal tyrants should be arrested? A shanda of a statement from an out of touch organization that doesn't represent actual NY Jews
UJA-Federation of New York@UJAfedNY

New Yorkers have spoken, electing Zohran Mamdani as the next Mayor of New York City. We recognize that voters are animated by a range of issues, but we cannot ignore that the Mayor-elect holds core beliefs fundamentally at odds with our community’s deepest convictions and most cherished values. As we have done for over a century, we will continue to work across every level of government to ensure that our city remains a place where our Jewish community, and all communities, feel safe and respected. We call on Mayor-elect Mamdani and all elected officials to govern with humility, inclusivity, and a deep respect for the diversity of views and experiences that define our city. Our agenda remains clear. We will hold all elected officials, including Mayor-elect Mamdani, fully accountable for ensuring that New York remains a place where Jewish life and support for Israel are protected and can thrive. We will continue to confront, without hesitation, the alarming rise in antisemitism and hate crimes, and loudly call out any rhetoric or actions that delegitimize Israel or excuse antisemitism. New York’s Jewish community — the largest and most important outside the State of Israel — has always been integral to New York City.  We are strong and resilient. And we will continue, as we have for generations, to live proud and public Jewish lives and make vital contributions to the future of our beloved city. The @ADL is a hateful organization that cozies up to fascists and exists solely to defend Israeli apartheid. They endanger Jews everywhere, and they certainly don't represent the thousands upon thousands of Jews who helped Zohran win tonight
Jonathan Greenblatt@JGreenblattADL

In light of Mayor-elect Mamdani's long, disturbing record on issues of deep concern to the Jewish community, we will approach the next four years with resolve. We expect the mayor of the city with the largest Jewish population in the world to stand unequivocally against antisemitism in all its varied forms and support all of its Jewish residents just as he would all other constituents. In the months ahead, we will hold the Mamdani Administration to this basic standard, and @ADL will be relentless and unyielding in our work to ensure the safety and security of all Jewish New Yorkers. We will neither compromise nor relent in our pursuit of our core purpose, to protect the Jewish people.

Every Life, A Universe: An Offering to Our Jewish Community On Oct 7, amidst the Days of Awe, Jews across the U.S. will come together in community & in grief. Our tears are abundant enough, & our hearts are big enough, to grieve for every life taken– every universe destroyed– whether Palestinian or Israeli. It is not either, or. We need one another: Jews cannot be safe if Palestinians are not safe and free. We will mark one year since the Hamas-led attack in which over 1,100 Israelis were killed and hundreds more were taken hostage. We will mark one year of the Israeli government’s ongoing massacres and starvation in Gaza, which has killed over 42,000 – and likely tens of thousands more – Palestinians.  It didn’t have to be this way.  It still doesn’t.  The massacre of October 7th tragically revealed what many have been saying for decades: that decades of occupation, apartheid, and siege that has subjugated Palestinians will never keep Israelis safe. State oppression of Palestinians has only created an ever-escalating cycle of violence, grief and trauma.  We honor the memories of the dead by fighting for the living. We call for an end to the Israeli government’s genocidal assault on Gaza, and to our own government’s enabling of it. We grieve for the hostages who didn’t and won’t make it out of Gaza alive and who have been abandoned by their government, and we pray for the release of all Israelis and Palestinians who are being held captive and we know that only an end to Israel’s assault on Gaza will give them a chance of freedom. And we know that even when the bombs stop falling and the captives are returned to their families, the only way to truly end the violence is by ending decades of occupation, apartheid and siege. Jewish safety is inextricably linked to freedom, safety, and justice for Palestinians. Let us forge a new future together, grounded in equality, justice, and safety for all. It is time for us all to stand before corrupt, racist leaders — here and in Israel— who are exploiting grief to advance their violent agenda. In our sorrow, anger, and fear, we say clearly: Your endless violence and bombs have wrought destruction upon Palestinians and endangered Israelis and Jews around the world. We must bring about an end to the decades of oppression, dispossession, and violence that the Israeli military has inflicted on the Palestinians. We reject the lie that decades of subjecting Palestinians to occupation and apartheid protects Jews – in Israel or anywhere in the world. We know there is another way. Join us on October 7– in grief, in solidarity, and in commitment to a better future. everylifeauniverse.org

@SaraHirschhorn1 Dr Hirschhorn, thousands have been injured and children have died in what is clearly a violation of international law and a dangerous regional escalation. Maybe don’t joke about this?

@SaraHirschhorn1 It’s quite upsetting that you’d call what they’re doing - in my view, fully engaging with the democratic process and now desperately trying to get a yes on an extremely reasonable request - hostage taking.

@BurtonJM Agreed! And I think hand in hand with this is giving space for a Palestinian to speak from the stage, as the Uncommitted delegates who did things the "right way" are reasonably asking for. Curious what you think?

We need Democratic leaders to clearly & specifically denounce the protesters who are explicitly supporting the Oct. 7 attacks. What we dont need are the efforts to coddle or normalize them. People like this dont belong in ANY majority coalition building the future of our nation.
Chaskel Bennett@ChaskelBennett

Watch: A Hamas protester at the Democratic National Convention in Chicago, concealing his face with a keffiyeh and wearing a Hamas headband, expressed support for the October 7th attacks, specifically endorsing violence against civilians in their homes. Of course, the masked coward chose to remain anonymous. Ban face masks in public and destroy Hamas.

I attended the Uncommitted session on Monday. You can hear these wrenching stories of Palestinians in Gaza and not agree with a single one of the speakers’ political conclusions. The DNC could’ve vetted the remarks. A Palestinian speaking would have conveyed compassion.

No is not an acceptable answer. Please reconsider. We’re being extremely reasonable. I’m waiting for the call from the Vice President’s team. I can’t go anywhere until the Vice President agrees to having a Palestinian American speak from the stage. I’m waiting for the call.
