The future of work is not "freelancer marketplaces" or "gig economy platforms", but solid jobs that are flexible and remote.

Why Strava is not good for training & health, since it shows your average speed (publicly) & causes the wrong type of emulation. Most people who show their heart rate there appear to be in Zones 3-4, the "junk miles".
Alan Couzens@Alan_Couzens

They say there's no 'magic workout'. While I agree, this one comes close. Its magic comes from the fact that so few people are willing to do it. Are you ready? * Take your bike & put it in the small ring. * Point it at the flattest, most boring, road you can imagine. * Spend multiple hours ticking along an easy gear #RackingUpTheContractions * Never let your heart rate go above your AeT That's it. Embrace the boring stuff and watch yourself soar! 💪🚴‍♂️ #SimpleNotEasy

@maartenkes @DellAnnaLuca The 54B is probably higher than usual, but say an average of 10B of wealth flee Norway every year. The wealth tax is calculated with perhaps 75-80% discount, so say 40B in true value leave annually. Let’s say that these assets were bought for 10B, so 30B taxable cap gains, at 37%

The recent wealth tax increase in Norway was expected to bring an additional $146M in yearly tax revenue Instead, an estimated $54B-worth of ultra-rich left the country, leading to a lost $594M in yearly wealth tax revenue A net decrease of $448M+ (sources and calculations ↓)

STANFORD TORUS MEGATHREAD You’ve seen the pictures, but you probably don’t know the full story. It's the result of a 10-week engineering study at Stanford University in 1975, funded by NASA and led by Girard O’Neill - the most thorough study on free-space settlement to date. 1/

HOW TO BUY A GOOD CASHMERE SWEATER 🧵 I want to address this comment left by someone in response to my Brick Watch Company tweet. It also gets into something I've been wanting to talk about: how to buy a good cashmere sweater.

Nearly a decade ago, @EnriqueAllen and I set out to bring great design to early-stage startups. We believed doing so would ensure the next generation of products and services would better serve the world. It’s taken a village to get here but the progress is undeniable: [1/7]

🧵Putin is preparing public opinion for further escalation of the war If Putin's troubles in Ukraine do not make him back out, his other option is to escalate, allowing him to militarize Russia further and mobilize more people and resources. That could mean war with NATO. 1/🧵

At the AEA meeting and in the week since I have heard several mentions of Alan Blinder's paper from mid 2000s predicting that 25% of jobs would be offshored. Makes me realize that the economics field is very unaware of my 2019 paper, so a quick thread....
