@JSG_54 @maiasz As I said repeatedly (evidence Dr Flores has ignored), my neuro practice, comprised entirely of #ChronicPain patients, instituted a no-opioid policy in 2017. A specialist practice, affiliated with Inova. This had nothing to do with patient behavior. It was an executive decision.

Part of the #FalseNarrative about opioid ODs represents an effort to claw back or save money spent on opioid prescribing on the part of health insurers, including Medicare & Medicaid.
Danielle Belardo, MD@DBelardoMD

Alright maybe an unpopular take but, sometimes I think people spend too much time hating on “pharma” and not enough time hating on insurance companies who are robbing our patients of every penny and won’t pay for life saving medications 🤷🏼‍♀️

These are withdrawal symptoms. Some symptoms of withdrawal (ie insomnia) can last months. It’s the reason why many aren’t able to come completely off opioids. And it’s one of the reasons why we should stop getting patients stuck on drugs that’s are more likely to harm than help.

@andrewkolodny Dr Kolodny, Harms following taper 1) pt is destabilized 2) pt loses function 3) pt is forced into disability 4) pt is filled w distress, anxiety, pain, despair 5) social life begins eroding We see medical collapse heart attack or major illness attributed to uncontrolled pain

Rejecting the #PatientExperience in favor of your version of reality (the patient cannot possibly need such powerful & dangerous medication!) is a cop out. You are letting the patient suffer because of your discomfort. That isn't medicine. #dehumanization twitter.com/NAbleism/statu…

When we talk about #IntractablePain & the profound need for relief & periods of time without agony, this is what we are referring to. Denying the fact that the pain exists, or suggesting it can be *talked away* is insulting & traumatizing. 💔 #AlternativeFacts #PainCareCrisis

Dawn threatens. I'm sleepless. Waiting in pain. The light will surely mock my suffering. Yet, there is hope & beauty as the day comes alive. Mother Moon's silent vigil ends & she retreats again- As the stars trail behind her obediently🌠 I'm left to marvel in gratitude.

@rlamartini @KeithNHumphreys @frontlinepbs Also it sounds a bit like you're doing the American thing of treating medical issues as moral failures. People with such predisposition exist, and the medical profession as a whole was derelict in its duty to protect them from exposure to medicines that would have harmed them.

@GhanaboyPharmd @andrewkolodny Science is never really settled, is it? Seems to go against the scientific method. Yes, I suppose we have strong conclusions that are CLOSE? This chapter of science will not be remembered well in history.

#BigAddiction & #BigPharma need to get their story straight. “Opioids not only don’t work for chronic pain (no matter what millions of CPPs say) they make pain worse! EXCEPT the highly potent opioid buprenorphine-it treats chronic pain AND miraculously, NO HYPERALGESIA!”#Indivior

@Tootwisted40 @headdock @docroland @Txsconstitution @aander1987 @PithyPins @AjayManhapra @NitaGhei @Deeenst @cherndon12 @hanselt @StefanKertesz Could be just me, but I think its a mistake to direct the bulk of MCC patients to interventional pain specialists for their primary support. These folks aren't trained in complex/rare disease, geriatrics or multi-disciplinary tx in community located care. #Real_problems

Question of the day- For those of you with multiple chronic comorbidities, who are on long term opioid therapy for pain mgmt (or were on it but now switched to something else, or abandoned), have you EVER been assessed by anyone for 'FRAILTY' as part of your Tx plan?
