One way to have a lavish wedding and avoid media attention would be for the party planner to leak that a wedding might cost $600 million and have that figure and the fact that there is a wedding be totally false. That anchors the public to thinking that a $10 million wedding is a modest one. An interesting approach to be considered by someone considering a lavish upcoming occasion and seeking to avoid public criticism, which begs the question as to whether we should be criticizing our fellow citizens for having expensive weddings. While the sums that some spend on parties sound absurd, we should all be comforted by the fact that the money for each such event is going to contribute to growth in the economy and for the wages of hundreds and likely thousands of low and modest income people in hospitality, food services, catering, entertainment, transportation, etc. It is better for the world for the money to be spent on goods and services rather than sitting in short-term Treasurys in someone’s custody account. During the Obama administration, the President criticized corporations for events they held in Las Vegas. This had the effect of postponing the economic recovery from the Great Financial Crisis. We should encourage Americans to celebrate important occasions, not scorn for them for enjoying their important life and corporate events. Let’s make America party again. We have a lot to celebrate.
