@deuce_mercy The REAL THEIVES are covered, and a hyped surrogated theft declared.
English

LEST WE FORGET: The public is being slowly socialized to accept that key leadership positions across public institutions are hand-picked. When the establishment makes these appointments, they are treated as final and non-negotiable. So-called "elected" leaders are frequently forced to sanitize decisions imposed upon them from above, entirely disregarding the actual will, demands, or grievances of their electorates.
Take note of where true authority is being centered and how Ugandans will eventually be funneled toward that nucleus. New leaders are actively being cultivated and socialized through ongoing scandals; nothing is happening organically or without a deliberate, long-term plan. In Ugandan politics, timing is everything. Effective politicians are not just reacting to today's news; they are thinking five to ten years down the line. Because the game is already planned, citizens' immediate reactions are entirely anticipated and managed.
Ultimately, this political trajectory operates on the principle that the ends justify the means.

.@cobbo3 do you remember the phrase from the Clinton 92 campaign for the US Presidency that sunk George H. W? Why the architects & champions of this did not seek counsel of those who know is mind boggling. This embarrassment that the #SovereigntyBill has become could have been avoided well in advance🤷🏿♂️
English

@YusufSerunkuma @SarahBireete This book tears down the Bill. It opens unhealed wounds of exploitative treaties & capitalistic appetite on monopoly over "LAND" & its resources, without the people - "nations". It demands people to surrender all their livelihood coercively. Remember KOLOLO Swearing is May 2026.

The only good thing in this bill is the title, "Protection of Sovereignty Bill."
I also thought, finally, communism, nationalisation? Kumbe, waa. Politics.
In these 13 glorious minutes, dr @SarahBireete breaks down the absurdity of Kiryowa Kiwanuka's Bill. It is painful to imagine it passed their cabinet.
Dear @MKarekye what type of country are we cobbling together (or apart?) Eh.

Soon (around July), our short certificate course in Critical Thinking and Social Intelligence will be rolled out. Among other skills it will sharpen, is how to critically analyse information we come across, and how to read beyond what seems obvious. A critical thinker with social intelligence, for instance, would easily see the red flags in this picture.

I have started reading this book, which explores the idea of revolution and how it has evolved over time. It challenges the Marxist argument that revolutions are mainly driven by economic constraints. Often times ideas themselves trigger revolutions. Also because throughout the history, economic crises have not always led to revolutionary change. And even when revolutions occur, they do not necessarily change the underlying class conflict, that is, societies have consistently been characterized by a very small circle of wealthy elite and a large populations of poor individuals.

I am really into the “history of an idea” genre, so I’m curious about this one.

Many African nations are on the brink of liberating themselves from Western (America, UK, France, Portugal, Belgium et al) imperialism which has been ongoing for well over four centuries. The collapse of the USSR allowed the West to behave how they liked, and that is now ending.

The US never invests in roads, development projects, and infrastructure; they are only after securing their interests and also Africa’s resources while building military bases.

A Number We Should Not Read Lightly
Yesterday, I came across a headline that has stayed with me:
“Panic as 4,800 NGOs collapse.”
I did not read it lightly.
This sector has been my home.
I entered it as a first-year law student, volunteering at @FIDA_Uganda. It was there that my legal training found purpose. Over the years, the people in this space have become more than colleagues, they have become community, mentors, friends… family.
And so when the sector bleeds, I feel it.
At a CSO symposium in 2025, it was shared that Uganda had approximately 7,000 registered non-profit organizations.
If the numbers reported are accurate, and over 4,000 have shut down, then we are not simply witnessing a statistic.
We are witnessing a significant contraction of civic life.
And I wonder if we are pausing long enough to take this in.
Do we see what sits behind that number?
Do we see:
•The services that are interrupted or lost altogether?
•The communities that must now navigate without support?
•The jobs and livelihoods quietly disappearing?
•The ideas and efforts that will never fully take shape?
Every organization that closes does not disappear in isolation. It takes people, purpose, and possibility with it.
Non-profits are often spoken about only in terms of funding. But they are also part of the economy. They employ. They procure. They train. They respond where others cannot.
Their absence will be felt, whether immediately, or slowly, over time.
I say this with full awareness that the sector is not perfect. There are organizations that must do better.
There are questions of accountability and compliance that cannot be ignored.
But even with these realities, a contraction of this scale should give all of us pause.
For those of us who care about governance, development, and the future of our societies, this moment invites reflection:
•What kind of civic space are we building, or constraining?
•What balance do we strike between regulation and enablement?
•What happens when citizen-led organizing begins to shrink?
Before we rush to solutions, we must first sit with the reality:
This is not just about organizations.
It is about people. It is about possibility. It is about the kind of society we are becoming.
