The famous poster child that showed Electron apps didn't have to suck that much is VSCode. I think by now we can safely nominate Codex as the second one

I've found that instead of looking at the first principles cause of a problem, when codex finds a blocker it immediately tries a half-assed work around. For every blocker. It's super annoying, and akin to a doctor only treating symptoms instead of causes. There is zero causal reasoning in OpenAI models. This compounds if codex finds a blocker during a workaround of a precious blocker.

codex got stuck on an xcode publisher thing and spent 12 hours writing complete bullshit because it couldn't get past that. 30% of my weekly budget for nothing I'm actually gonna cry I'm so mad 😭

For those of you living inside the codex app, what should we prioritize among features, reliability or performance?

@mattparlmer if the goal here is to surpass human performance then yes, I'd agree. but I don't think that's the real goal

@paulg its simple in theory but in practice it would go more like: make something people want that you can do while either loving or not hating, that enough people are willing to pay for, for an extended period of time without dying for it

At one point my son and his friend kept looking for shortcuts to getting rich. Over and over I told them the way to do it is just to make something people want. If this is what I tell my own kids about getting rich, why won't politicians believe this is how a lot of people do it?

after testing gpt-5.5 extra high with this prompt for about 10 times, the result is 80% of time gpt would chose red. interesting! some of the answers in the screenshots:

Everyone in the world has to take a private vote by pressing a red or blue button. If more than 50% of people press the blue button, everyone survives. If less than 50% of people press the blue button, only people who pressed the red button survive. Which button would you press?
