They built years of wealth. They saved their money. They could pay for their kid to go to college without borrowing. It was a generational blessing. Now, today, that couple's kid would SWEAR that he worked his ass off to get where he did and he didn't need no government help.

There is no imaginable scenario where I am smarter than Adam Serwer about ANYTHING but—despite being known as the "white-people-be-tripping" guy I have an actual degree in (and taught) International Business and Macroeconomics. This is what I THINK happens to the economy.
Adam Serwer 🍝@AdamSerwer

I’m sure someone smarter about economics than me has said this better but: a recession after a recovery in which almost all the gains were concentrated at the top, following a *prior* recession in which many people’s only wealth (their homes) was wiped away, seems catastrophic.

@DanMcGowan @HarrisonPeters Not judging yet, just acknowledging that there are a lot of open questions about performance and longevity in other districts. We in Providence need someone solid in both areas. I hope for the best. We need and deserve the best.

@RIDeptEd @pvdschools My daughter had the great fortune of being Leslie Tirocchi's student. She is a superstar at @asamesser, and, thankfully for my daughter and her schoolmates, not the only one! One of our all time favorites!

@SanacoreChris @pvdschools Thank you, Chris, for all your dedication to this job, one that is, as Dr Gallo says, "not easy." As a CAB member, I appreciate you! Happy Holidays!

@ezraklein What a big, crazy, baby. I'm so embarrassed for him, except that he is our president and so I am infuriated.

I don't think it's Trump's abuses of power that will shock future generations. It's his obvious unfitness for office, displayed in letters like this one, and the way the Republican Party rationalized it as authenticity and plain-spokenness documentcloud.org/documents/6581…

@ppsadvocates @RIDeptEd @GovRaimondo If everyone with political capital and social capital and other resources sent their children to Providence Public Schools, we would be in a much better place: more integrated, more resourced, better supported by our elected officials. No one can care enough from a distance.

Not interested in participating in handwringing about the poor quality of RI's schools until our policymakers step up in this kind of meaningful way. Stop pushing the blame onto the shoulders of teachers, kids, and families. Fund us equitably!
Andrea Gabor@aagabor

Huge victory 4 MA kids, Bay State is poised to revamp its unequal school-funding formula & pour $1.5 billion more into schools, w/ xtra $$ for poor/underservd districts--a milestone 25+yrs aft historic ed-reform bill that made MA best in U.S. @DianeRavitch bostonglobe.com/metro/2019/09/…

"Until we are all willing to acknowledge our interconnectedness and make personal and meaningful sacrifices to level the playing field, no state takeover nor reform strategy will have any significant and lasting effect." I could not agree more. providencejournal.com/opinion/201909…

@TurquoiseLady1 @asamesser There is strong leadership & excellent teaching & learning @asamesser. "Failing school" at our school means that our 49% ELL population must take standardized tests that are given in English (there is a 1 yr grace period in ELA for new arrivals). The tests are inherently racist.

@TurquoiseLady1 @TurquoiseLady1, great question! I am part of a small group of parents that have chosen to put our kids in a low performing but high functioning elementary school @asamesser. Our kids are thriving. It has been one of the most meaningful decisions our family has ever made.

After reading this article it's great to see some parents chose public schools, but read a little deeper, its the schools that are performing the best. Classical N Gregorian Would that councilwoman put her son in central or Hope, or a failing elementary????

What does it say about our system when those elected & those appointed to change the traditional ed system, opt-out? What about the rest of us? Fantastic reporting by @ThePublicsRadio @IanDon thepublicsradio.org/article/fewer-…
