After this week’s big releases from @perplexity_ai we look back on our debut Season 1 episode with @henrymodis Design chief for Perplexity: Software is a material to be shaped, not just theorized. Here’s how to build an AI-native design practice. In our in-depth conversation, we discussed: › Why Perplexity adapted from answer enginer to a browser › Possibility vs. Necessity: Why most consumer UI innovation are actually arbitrary mistakes › The “Ground Truth” rule: Why mocks are just starting points for production code › Management as trust, not anxiety: Why he encourages designers to write production code and ship › The “Scorched Earth” brand strategy” - why Perplexity has no rigid style or system › Why “founding designers” and solo freelancers are the best hires for AI startups › The “View Source” impulse: How AI can make the web malleable and understandable again Watch on youtube/@firstofkind youtube.com/watch?v=PhJ3lK…

Soleio learns about “the framing device” from design pioneer @josephcohen in the latest Season 2 episode below. “If you really want to break new ground, you need to ask new questions.”
Soleio@soleio

First of Kind: The @josephcohen episode What could replace the car in American culture? @infinitemachine has an answer. 00:00 Intro: Color Outside the Lines 01:50 A New Symbol for Freedom 05:52 The Stolen Moped 09:49 The P1 vs. The Vision Pro 12:52 Hard Modernism 17:26 Painters Who Paint Factories 19:42 Ten Times the Trips 23:33 The Vespa Has No Engine 27:51 Ask New Questions 32:00 The Company as Medium 34:11 What Memories Will You Make Joseph Cohen is the CEO, designer and cofounder of a new automotive company reimagining how people move through cities. His team redesigned the electric motorcycle from the ground up with the P1 and have introduced a new breed of electric bike in the Olto, pushing the bounds on what one can expect from a vehicle on two wheels. We met at IM’s factory and headquarters in New York City, where Joe walked us through the design philosophy behind the “non-car” category, why electrification unlocks radical new form factors, and what it means to bet on autonomous people over autonomous cars. – Joseph Cohen: Infinite Ride First of Kind, S2:E5 @firstofkind Hosted by @soleio and produced with @room3nyc Powered by our sponsors: @framer @cursor_ai @vercel @tryprofound

My main takeaway is that in the age of Claude Code, tools like @framer matter more, not less. AI gets you to 80% fast, but fixing the last 20% through chat can regress you back to 70% and visual tools are a great way to close the gap. The bottleneck isn't writing code, its communicating design intent. Prompting things like "the spacing feels off" are instructions that break AI. You can't prompt your way to something you can't verbally articulate. Some things you just have to see to fix

“We are in the business of enabling agency, enabling people to do what they want on their own terms, to live their own life, to color outside the lines. We’re not interested in autonomous cars. We’re interested in autonomous people. That’s really the crux of @infinitemachine.”

Next Wednesday on @firstofkind The @infinitemachine design manifesto is one for the ages. Carve it on a building. We sat down with cofounder and CEO @josephcohen to talk about designing the future of mobility.

“So the question is: When is somebody gonna make an AI that everyone can control, like a canvas?” @koenbok hints at what’s to come for @framer Full @firstofkind episode available now:
Soleio@soleio

First of Kind: The @koenbok & @jornvandijk interview How do you know when it’s time to pivot or surrender? Koen Bok and Jorn van Dijk co-founded @framer, the web design platform that helps designers ship beautiful sites fast. Today, 55% of YC companies run on it. Designers love it. But Framer almost didn’t make it. Framer began as a high-fidelity prototyping tool born inside Facebook’s design culture. But then the startup underwent a death-defying pivot 5 years into its journey. Over drinks at the Lone Palm in San Francisco, Koen and Jorn recall what it took to step back from the brink of oblivion and chart a new course — for themselves and for the field of digital design. Now with the onset of AI, the Dutch duo are leading Framer into its third act. 00:00 Intro: Lone Palm, Last Call 01:34 What is Framer Today? 02:39 Pick a Problem You Love 06:14 Three Interactions to Fifty 08:20 Rough Riding / Why VC is Good 11:38 Three Options Left 14:31 The Pivotal Lunch 20:46 Act III: Solving the Walkie-Talkie 29:08 Artistry meets Wall Street 32:20 Stay Weird, Keep Building – Koen Bok & Jorn van Dijk: Framer Reloaded First of Kind, S2:E4 @firstofkind Hosted by @soleio and produced by @room3nyc Powered by our sponsors: @framer @cursor_ai @vercel @tryprofound Special thanks to Jane Seabrook and the Lone Palm @palm_sf team for granting us the opportunity to film the first ever video podcast at their storied bar.
