@PaulHembo Give me this in like terms a normal baseball fan can understand. Did he hit 55 home runs in a season or like 150?

A good ERA+ is 125.
A bad ERA+ is 75.
An average ERA+ is 100.   In 31 appearances since joining the Padres, Mason Miller owns an ERA+ of 780.

@TewksHitting 2/2 The kids were much more open to skill refinement if it meant improving their chance at winning those games. Actual nuanced skill refinement for me and my eldest didn’t come until high school. Mainly bc that’s when it clicked for him.

If you've made it this far, hello! Share your thoughts! The industry is a mess and this is a foundational concern. I am unaccepting of the current state of baseball/softball. I have zero desire to complain and "the industry is broken" whine. It is time for change. 21/21

The kids were VERY engaged. The other coach instantly implemented so his line was popping. I've set a culture (😂) of high fives when your teammate does something they were trying to do. This was our third practice. Day 1 they were mute. Now they were hyping up teammates. 6/x

@TewksHitting 1/2 I coached both my boys from 8 yo until high school. I often did “games” like your grounder drill to keep the kids engaged and dare I say, having fun. I would weave in new ones based on new concepts that were introduced as they got older.

@ScoringChanges @BlueJays @Mariners Dan Shulman is a top 3 play by play voice. If the game of baseball was created by being spoken into existence, I would imagine it to be done via Dan’s majestic cadence.

The 1977 season, I was seven, and it was the first time I could remember being excited for the season, and getting baseball cards that had two expansion teams, the @BlueJays and the @Mariners, and we are now one win away from what was unthinkable back then…a Blue Jays/Mariners ALCS. Additionally, Dan Shulman (@DannySpxp) gave up ESPN for the chance to call a Blue Jays World Series for the Toronto fans, and he is four wins away from his dream coming true.

Joe Carter was one of the premier run producers of his day, had the most 100-RBI seasons of any non-PED player not in the HOF, and remains a franchise icon, while Daulton Varsho is a spare part with a .227 BA and a nice glove; and yet, somehow, by next summer, this comparison won't be a clean sweep anymore, will it? Varsho will surpass Carter in career WAR in about 1/3 as many games despite no offensive categories being particularly close; I get that defense exists and that hitting into a large number of outs is bad, but I continue to lose sleep over the staggering number of narrow-minded chieftains that think baseball started in 2005 and insist on misapplying WAR to their own detriment. Joe Carter had a specific role to play; he was the mid-order stick you wanted at the plate with men on base and he was looking to change the number on the scoreboard with every swing. He was guided by the conventional wisdom of his day, which suggested that you are more likely to drive in a run by putting the ball in play than by drawing a walk. (You might be surprised to learn that this is still the case, even in today; fortunately, "RBI don't matter anymore," I'm told.) Joe Carter had a job to do, and he excelled at it. He's one of only 44 players with at least 396 homers and 1445 RBI, and 33 of them have plaques in Cooperstown. More than one person suggested over the weekend that Daulton Varsho is a better player than Joe Carter was, and that once all is said and done, Varsho will have had the better career. I simply can't abide that. Carter has perhaps the largest delta between his WAR and his actual on-field accomplishments, while Varsho manifests the opposite phenomenon on account of his admittedly outstanding defense. But let me ask you something: which of These Men will we still be talking about in 50 years?

Not Gaetti@notgaetti

Daulton Varsho (.227 BA, 99 HR, 295 RBI) will pass Joe Carter (.259 BA, 396 HR, 1445 RBI) in career WAR before next year’s All-Star Game Carter had a 200-hit season, a 30/30 season, *ten* 100-RBI seasons, and the biggest WS home run ever It’s deeply disturbing to contemplate

Without accountability we live under the illusion of freedom. Unless we change this soon, more people that we love are going to die. Charlie has ascended he has left us with a call to action and the price for his message was his life. @notgaetti still not convinced. he was a really good player for a long time, which is awesome! but a Hall of Famer should be obviously great during his era and he just wasn’t. that shouldn’t be controversial nor should it be a negative. Go Baines!
