A lot of his generation didn't understand Pan-Africanism as primarily a material struggle against a global empire, but as an emotional political project based on identity. It was very easy to coopt them.
Also, because that was the first generation to have widespread access to western education, they almost uniformly had a fawning, uncritical admiration for the west, and they kept getting rewarded for it, which created a feedback loop.
They were literally not in their right minds.

Yeah, Zheng He was a total fabrication. The giraffe so widely painted in the Ming court actually swam to China. The neck actually evolved as a kind of snorkel, you see.

Nigeria's 🇳🇬 Dangote Refinery in Lagos has begun direct jet fuel supply to Ethiopian Airlines 🇪🇹, deepening energy ties with Africa’s largest carrier. This is a major step for the refinery as it expands across the continent and supports regional aviation. The deal also helps reduce reliance on fuel imports from outside Africa at a time of tight global supply. The refinery is operating at full capacity of 650,000 barrels per day, with jet fuel exports rising to about 158,000 barrels per day. Demand has grown after supply disruptions in the Strait of Hormuz. Europe remains the biggest buyer, but exports within Africa are increasing, strengthening Nigeria’s role in global energy markets.

🇨🇳 China Invokes Blocking Statute for First Time
China’s Ministry of Commerce has for the first time activated its 2021 Blocking Rules, ordering all Chinese firms and individuals not to comply with U.S. sanctions targeting five independent Chinese oil refineries accused of purchasing Iranian crude.
Beijing called the U.S. measures, imposed under two executive orders, an “unjustified” and “improper” use of extraterritorial law.
The move puts multinational companies operating in both markets in direct legal conflict: compliance with U.S. sanctions now risks violating Chinese law, and vice versa. Global banks and firms with dollar exposure face secondary sanctions risk if they continue dealing with the affected refineries.
Analysts describe the order as a significant step toward competing legal frameworks for global trade, accelerating the path to potential economic “decoupling” between the two powers.

This idea of a rigid Tuareg racialized order is exaggerated. How can that claim hold when majority of Tuareg Amenukal, or supreme leaders, have historically been very dark-skinned, and many Tuareg nobles? The people most invested in creating this pseudo-hierarchy were often European anthropologists, who were obsessed with portraying the Tuareg as descendants of “white” people.
They pushed similar racial theories about the Tutsi in Rwanda, using colonial ideas to separate African societies into artificial racial categories.
