@__paleologo @tylercowen Interesting, I think this is my least favorite Cowen podcast. Just really not a Jacobsen fan. So reluctant to think deeply or engage in hypotheticals.

@KyleAdamsStocks @Ashton_1nvests Thanks. Above my pay grade but I'm worried about the short/medium-term effect on energy and datacenter investment in the region

@fluxians @Ashton_1nvests No effect unless their facility was hit, which is unlikely. If anything, if they sustain damage to their infrastructure, then Perma-Pipe will see more demand.

@patrickc One could view it as a of tragedy of the commons, but it is a great benefit for the user. Saves me from speeding tickets.

The "police ahead" feature in mapping applications is peculiar. What exactly is the point here? Do we want road safety enforcement to be better or worse? Should these applications also provide notifications for ticket inspectors on public transit?

@KyleAdamsStocks I this one time executive comp cost not worryingly large? Does it make you question management at all?

Few more things to add for $PPIH. 1) $2.1M one time cost for previous leadership leaving the company. 2) Backlog grew again and is now $157.8M now, which is bullish long term. 3) They had to build a new facility in Qatar, so also hit the bottom line. Weak quarter from an earnings perspective, but the top line was great, and the backlog is growing, so overall view this as positive for the future. On @majgeoinvesting point the company is also exploring selling a subsidiary or the entire company, which will surely be at a premium price.
Maj Soueidan@majgeoinvesting

Chris, RE: $PPIH potential takeout candidate👉 “The Company is evaluating a wide range of value creation alternatives including, but not limited to, continued execution of the Company’s business plan, a tax-efficient sale of one or more of the Company’s divisions or a sale of the entire Company.”

I've just received a medical report from two doctors who have examined my blood tests, and upon reading their findings, I have decided to stop my hunger strike. They strongly advised me to end my fast given developing acidosis and “very low blood glucose” (even for somebody on a 7 day fast) that "runs the risk of hypoglycemia which can be life threatening". I had decided to see a doctor today after experiencing two near-fainting episodes over the past 48 hours. Given the significant risk of seizure, brain damage, or death if I continue, I am stopping my fast today and beginning refeeding. I want to thank everyone who has supported me in this journey, both in person and online. My hunger strike ends now but the movement continues, with Guido and Denys still on strike in front of Anthropic and DeepMind. The emergency remains real. We need to build coordination between AI companies now before it's too late. When we reach the critical point where AI systems become powerful enough to pose catastrophic risks, we must have the mechanisms in place to pause frontier development and focus on safety. My letter to Demis Hassabis has been delivered directly to him, and I'm still waiting for his response to this first step: publicly commit that DeepMind would halt frontier AI development if other major labs agreed to do the same.

The people wanted a covered calls / option selling mega-thread, a one-click response to all the charlatans out there trying to farm retail investors. Systematically, blindly selling options is a BAD IDEA. Underperforms owning equities by a lot. Let's go through why and how.

"George Soros has taught me that when you have tremendous conviction on a trade, you have to go for the jugular, bet the ranch. It takes courage to be a pig. It takes courage to ride a profit with huge leverage. Although I was not at Soros Management at the time, I’ve heard that prior to the Plaza Accord meeting in the fall of 1985, other traders in the office had been piggybacking George and hence were long the yen going into the meeting. When the yen opened 800 points higher on Monday morning, these traders couldn’t believe the size of their gains and anxiously started taking profits. Supposedly, George came bolting out of the door, directing the other traders to stop selling the yen, telling them that he would assume their positions. While these other traders were congratulating themselves for having taken the biggest profit in their entire lives, Soros was looking at the big picture: The government had just told him that the dollar was going to go down for the next year, so why shouldn’t he be a pig and buy even more yen? As far as Soros is concerned, when you know you're right on something, you can’t own enough." - Stanley Druckenmiller
