@wrowclif I’m averaging $200 a month right now, and I haven’t even tried to reduce that number. It wouldn’t be more than $120 if I were sensible.

You guys are talking about how much you spend on food per week, and I guess I'd have to figure out the specifics but I feel like we're somewhere around $200 / week.

@narendramodi No thanks, I don’t want your sanitized version of Jesus. His death wasn’t about pleasantries. Christ died and is risen. His teachings are not for world powers to get along. They’re about him, his rule, his way, his life. He is first and foremost to be believed.

Greetings on Easter. This sacred day celebrates hope and renewal. May it bring peace, joy and brightness to everyone’s lives. May the teachings of Jesus Christ inspire all to be kind and strengthen the spirit of togetherness in society.

Anyone else get the feeling that these LLMs are (all?) purposefully designed to misunderstand prompts so that you’ll have to upgrade to premium to get your answer?

@raywongy The twelve inch MacBook was my favorite by far. My battery went caput and that was the end for me. The neo should’ve brought that form factor back, since the air didn’t. Total wasted opportunity.

So I decided to factory reset/erase my beloved 12” MacBook (early 2015) just to get a clean install of the last version of macOS 11.7.11 Big Sur that it supports Big mistake. Apps that used to run (like Final Cut Pro) can’t even be redownloaded from the App Store anymore because Apple requires macOS 15 or later. That’s right: Software that I paid $300 for back in 2020 (see second image with date of purchase) that ran on this little machine (yes, I edited 4K iPhone footage on it during major events like CES, MWC, and IFA back in the day) just straight up doesn’t install anymore. Apple doesn’t even let me install the last compatible version anymore. There’s nothing wrong with my 12” MacBook. It should run all the software that used to work on it. Kinda fucked up and very anti-consumer

The biggest problem with LCMS preaching is how low stakes everything is. In our preaching, there's often no condemnation, no wrath, no language resembling the law as preached by the apostles and prophets. It's just "golly, sometimes we mess up like the disciples" utterances that minimize the depth of our sins or "I'd really like to challenge you to think about whether you're living a Christ-centered life" admonitions that make a righteous life seem easy. The full sternness of the law is often not preached, which means there is no full sweetness of the Gospel. No profound heights of God's love manifest in Christ, no rescue form the death and sorrow, no majesty. Just "but despite all your goof ups, remember that Jesus does love you" for thirty seconds at the end of a sermon. And this style of preaching is so common because, quite honestly, this is what people want to hear. Low stakes Christianity--a faith that never asks to much and doesn't get bent out of shape when you fail to reach the mark. It's the perfect religion for suburbanites who want guidance from a guru, and who have no stomach for looking at their lives long enough to despair of what they'd be without Jesus. The demand for pure Gospel preaching remains low because faith remains low. But the Lord will preserve His church.

So this is where I’ll get super technical. Hades is a singular place. Actual location of where dead people all went prior to Jesus’s resurrection. A grave can be anywhere and there can be multiple graves. Grave and Hades have different Greek and Hebrew words. They are as interchangeable as Antarctica and snow. Meaning, not interchangeable. I have a chart if you want to see more.

@srnorty @TimothyNerozzi Good catch. I do think it matters to not use “it” to refer to a baby. Probably says something about our implicit disregard as a culture for babies.

If your baby is being loud in church, you're supposed to bounce it up-and-down or jingle something in front of it and act overly apologetic to everyone. The rest of the congregation, in turn, is supposed to be overly assuring and tell you how beautiful the baby is. It's simple.

@TimothyNerozzi No. Take it outside. The church is for prayer, not a social club. While you're having fun cooing over your noisy baby, other people around you might be going through a dark night of the soul & really need just half an hour a week to talk to God in peace.

@PLeithart Abel offered in faith, Cain did not (Heb 11:4). It's about the heart of the offerer. Insofar as the content was concerned—if it was in view at all— the issue would have been firstfruits vs not, not animal vs plant. See Richard Belcher Jr., along with John Currid:

Why did God regard Abel's offering and not Cain's? How could they have known? Well, from their parents: Cain's offering = fig leaves, Abel's = animal skins.

A lot of folks assume that many Protestant denominations will just slowly decline over the next few decades. That's not what is going to happen. The Boomers are propping most of them up right now. When they age out, it's gonna get bad. Really fast. No one is ready.

Exactly, that's why Paul grounds his reasoning on women in leadership in what is going on at the time in Ephesus. Oh wait. Paul grounds his reasoning in the created order. "For Adam was formed first, then Eve." Carry on.
Dr. Michael F. Bird@mbird12

1 Tim 2:11–15 isn’t a biblical ‘door slam’ on women in leadership. It’s a situated response in Ephesus that is often read out of its context. New post with audio + video: 👉 michaelfbird.substack.com/p/i-permit-not…
