1992. Final term. O’Levels. Location: Hwange Secondary School. Your boy was in love. Serious love There was competition too. Another guy wanted her. But I prevailed. She was the first girl I ever hugged. The first I held by the waist while escorting her to the bus stop like I had a PhD in Romance Management. Now remember, early 90s Zimbabwe. You couldn’t even hold hands in public without being disciplined by random aunties who weren’t your relatives. So after our final O’Level paper, we needed privacy. We found it… behind Standard Chartered Bank in Hwange. Yes. Behind a bank. Where long-term emotional investments were being negotiated 😭 We held each other tightly and made promises like two people signing a lifetime contract without reading the terms and conditions. She was moving to Bulawayo. I was remaining in Hwange. I promised: “When I start A’Level next year, I’ll come for you.” She promised: “I’ll wait.” We sealed it with a kiss. Cinematic. Dramatic. Slow-motion type of goodbye. 1993. I start A’Level at Founders High School in Bulawayo. First week? I go to Gwabalanda to see my girl. Ladies and gentlemen… That was the last time I saw her as my girlfriend 😭😂 Two weeks later, I had a dream. In the dream she was running away from me. I chased her like I was trying to catch the last bus home. I couldn’t catch up. Then suddenly I did. I held her. Crying. Asking, “Why are you running?” She said nothing. I woke up. Laughed at myself. But deep dow, anxiety entered the group chat. No mobile phones back then. No texting. No “last seen 8:32pm.” Just letters and emotional bravery. So I decided I would write to tell her I was visiting the following weekend. I rushed back to St Elizabeth Hostel. Passed by the mail area. Boom. There was a letter for me from her I opened that classic envelope that was also the writing paper itself, if you know, you know 😭 She wrote that she was moving to Kadoma. We wouldn’t be able to meet again. She promised to write once she settled. Suddenly, the dream replayed in HD. But I told myself: “As soon as she writes from Kadoma and I get that address, I’m boarding the next bus.” Many weeks passed. No letter. Term ended. I went back to Hwange. Still no letter. That whole term? I was an emotional wreck. Teachers were teaching. Chalk was moving. Nothing was entering this head. My brain had officially suspended operations due to heartbreak 😭 Second day back in Hwange, Guess who came looking for me first? My rival. The same brother I defeated in 1992 Elections of Love. He came smiling like he had just won a government tender. He said, “Your girl is pregnant. She’s living with a guy who works at ZESA At first I said, “This is fake news.” So I confirmed with one of her close friends. It was true. The dream came back again. Running. Chasing. Tears. Prophetic heartbreak unlocked 😭😂 Anyway, I needed closure. We went to Ingagula Township. Knocked at the gate. And there she was. Pushing a visible future. At that moment my heart didn’t break, it respectfully collapsed but I stayed calm. She welcomed us inside. And there on the sofa… Was a big, shirtless, dark guy with a big belly sunk deep in a sofa like he owned the national grid.🙄🙄 The ZESA Champion himself 😂 Introductions were done. Internally I was praying, “Lord, let this man leave us alone for five minutes.” He did not move. We arrived at 12pm. He stayed. Until 5pm. Five hours of supervised closure 😂 I had seen enough. My heart signed the release papers. We left. Now here’s the wisdom part. Our Ndebele teacher once told us; “Boys don’t waste time chasing girls in your stream. Those ones already belong to older men who are working.” She said ours were still in primary school. At the time we laughed. But looking back, Ma’am was operating on advanced life analytics. Was she going to wait for me to finish school, go to college, find a job, build a life, then return like Season 2 of a series…….

Over 250 applications were received for welding jobs. We shall employ as many of them as required. I am grateful for such an overwhelming response. Before end of day today, I shall have purchased 1900 x 6mm mild steel sheets for the tank shells and 500 x 8mm mild steel sheets for the bases. At the same time, I would be interested in talking to a good and experienced lab technician who can contribute to the construction of a lab that can assay for Silver, Antimony, Aluminium, and Silicon. Our existing labs can only assay for gold. Please reach out to me via email on tn@tn.co.zw.

@zimlive It’s a good gesture if it was done with good intentions but it does not erase the arising conflict of interest . Bosso will have to concede games against Scotland FC or vice versa its match fixing brewing.
