I keep thinking plant conservation gets treated like a side note, when it’s really part of climate resilience. Lose rare plants and we lose future options too.

I took a coach to Friesland this week — students, academics, activists — to spend a day inside the world of peatlands. For someone who's been largely disabled this past year with a neurological disorder, getting there at all required a plan, recruited friends, and a wheelchair pulled from the rubbish. Worth every bit of it. The symposium was held in the @Biosintrum, one of Europe's most sustainable buildings — 80% biobased materials, timber, earth, biomass. Inside: school children, regional staff, researchers, radicals. All gathered around peat. Peatlands cover just 3% of the earth's surface, but hold 30% of all soil carbon. We've lost or degraded 70% of the world's wetlands since 1900 — three times faster than forests. A speaker from South Africa described Cape Town drawing on mires thousands of years old to survive its water crisis. The damage continues. What struck me most was a quieter moment: writer Camille Sapara Barton suggesting it might be more honest — more useful — to hold grief collectively, without rushing past it. That's what made XR's early work land. It named the failure of thirty years of climate politics and gave people space to feel it. Researchers have now mapped South African peatlands for the first time, finding peats up to 45,000 years old. Bog bodies preserved intact. These aren't just ecosystems — they're cultural archives, compressed history. Like fossil fuels, they are old accumulation. We're spending them in an eyeblink. Lunch was harvested by the Radical Radishes from the peatland itself — cattail, a flavour with no prior map in my mind. Music wove field recordings with live cello. Culture and ecology in the same room, not as decoration for each other. Disability has its metaphors. Peatlands decay slowly and that decay is their value — holding carbon, history, bodies across millennia. I don't think I'm broken. I think I'm old soil and rotting leaves, doing what autumn does: holding on, waiting for spring. It's spring now. I'll get there.

Hot and wet at once. Dry and burning at once. The earth is losing its rhythm, its separations, its seasons. A new Nature study shows the rarest, most lethal combinations of extremes are growing fastest. The maths is merciless for life on this planet.

I have said repeatedly, humans are an irritating, annoying, perhaps unintentional creation. Nature would have eliminated us centuries ago were it not for our huge brains and adaptability. As nature failed to eliminate us, it shifted direction and reprogrammed humans to completely destroy themselves. Nature always wins.

We are at a tipping point—the extinction of the human race is no longer a distant theory; it’s a future unfolding in our lifetime. For 30 years, we’ve been systematically lied to by the global establishment. This is not just a climate crisis; it is the end of the world. Before we talk about the climate, we must face this hard sociological truth: the system is broken, and we must act now.

@gerrycanuc13057 I’m not a Canadian. I’m Blackfoot. Why would I vote in the system of a settler colonial project that enforces a race based law on my people? GTFOH.

British Columbia is a province of builders and risk-takers. It’s leading the way in clean energy, major infrastructure, and tech. That spirit is embodied in the Greater Vancouver @BoardOfTrade. This is a room that wants to build big — and we’re going to build with you.

Meaningful reconciliation is central to Canada's human rights commitments and leadership on the international stage. Honoured to hear from Indigenous elders Judy Pelly, Joe Blayone, and Zippie Nochasak during the civil society discussions at the Forum of Ministers on Human Rights in Regina. Engaging in frank, constructive dialogue is foundational to creating more inclusive societies that protect and advance the rights of Indigenous Peoples.

People gotta leave the libtard gatekeeper talking points behind, in real life, indigenous people, even the tribalized ones, arent going to fit into your narrow idealized version of what you want them to be, they are a product of their environment, just like the rest of us
