There’s a lot of “if only I could throw away my phone and disconnect forever!” memes on here but I for one really like seeing what all you nice people are up to. It’s always some kind of whacky adventure or another! Keep going. I’ll be here watching.

@ruthdelioncourt @DisaffectedPod Yes. Narcissism/selfishness was rebranded as self love and promoted as the means to obtain self esteem and inner peace rather than as the harmful emotional disregulation it really is.

Narcissism and selfishness have been encouraged not only culturally, but in therapy too. I was never as neurotic and unstable as when I was in therapy being validated every week. I really hate therapists lol, I’ve had many. It’s not a matter of “finding the right one.” The whole model is broken.

Female drivers are displaying levels of aggression I've never seen until the past 10 years. It's conspicuously women. No, it's not teen boys anymore that scare me. Women. Women are doing this. It tracks with the skyrocketing of female narcissism. I'm seeing the majority of it in women from about 20 to 35, but older women are doing more of it too. 1. Deliberately going slow in the left lane to prevent you passing. 2. Moving over to the right lane, but then speeding up when you pass so you can't get over. Yes, it's deliberate. 3. Agressive weaving and cutting other motorists off. If you look and can see her face, it's usually set in that hard bitch lock jaw steel eyed expression. -J

When I first saw this yesterday, I read into it that they wanted to work in their garden, and I scoffed about it because if you're any good at gardening you can make a living at it under capitalism... But I realize today, they don't want to work on the garden, they just want it to be there so they can hang out in it, presumably making their worthless art...

Spoiler Alert: Socialism does NOT mean you don’t have to work. I have no idea how these idiotic children got the idea that socialism equals never having to work. Capitalism didn’t invent the concept of a job or a boss or bills or responsibilities. It just found a better way to organize them. But rest assured, socialist countries have still have all of the above. You don’t just get to decide to be an artist or dancer or whatever. It’s actually insane that any of this needs to be explained.

Why do I even bother with modern culture? Reading a well-received recent novel, ‘Halsey Street’, by Naima Coster. The heroine encounters a white landlady as she rents a room. ‘She wasn’t sure yet what kind of white people Samantha and her husband would be.’ Can you imagine this sentence with ‘black people’? The novel would rightly be assailed for racism. The imprint is Little A publishing. How can this pass the editorial process? Why is stereotyping white people ok?

The other issue is that the new higher minimum wages in many states are pushing the limits for how much a teen employee is even worth. At $15+, it's really easy to lose money hiring them. You can't just magically pay more and more if there is no commensurate value happening.

Have known many able bodied people here living on an uitkering with all the free time in the world. Without question the lowest vibrational energy people I have ever encountered. Infinite time for demented scheming and conspiracy theorizing (and also weed smoking). So very difficult for most people not to atrophy when they are paid to do nothing. This is why religious orders off all kinds impose schedules, routines, discipline etc. Idle hands really do do the devil’s work.

I do think that the 8-hour workday is intimately connected with the rise of brainrot. It's not so easy to maintain interest and motivation in outside projects when most of one's waking energy goes toward drudgery. You want to unwind with trifling, stupid TikTok videos; I get it.

@mohinisbha1925 @oliveegger Menopause is also a mine field of “body horror” issues for many women. I am just reacting to the verifiably wrong notion that avoiding pregnancy/childbirth=hot, thin, and healthy body.

Another reason mothers will naturally get defensive over other people implying that they are now gross and deformed is that there is also an implication (when the person making the critique has no kids of their own, especially) that their children are not worth the changes to their bodies

I’m starting to appreciate Protestantism as a social technology. The apostolic and especially Catholic model works amazingly when you have golden leaders, but what when you don’t? (Topical!) So level: place all authority in the book. A second-best Christianity for degraded times.

@adesertdryad This is a real problem. My mother is a hoarder, though not the worst of the worst, and it’s a constant struggle to impose order. She still complains about an old rice cooker I threw out 4 years ago.

gran may want to live at home but maybe the people who have to care for her would prefer not to have to work around hoarded magazines and litterboxes

@fraxinusleaf Well yes and no. Of course everything needs interpretation. But any hillbilly can read St Paul and work out that gay marriage isn’t God’s intention. If your bishops etc are good men, great; but if not, throwing out everything except the book can work in an emergency.
