Zionist Federation of Australia
The Zionist Federation of Australia condemns the inflammatory and disgraceful behaviour displayed by Israeli Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir in relation to the detained Gaza flotilla activists. Minister Ben-Gvir’s behaviour falls far below the standards expected of a Minister of the State of Israel. He has repeatedly embarrassed Israel through extremist rhetoric and performative conduct that undermines Israel’s international standing and weakens confidence in its leadership. We join the Israeli Prime Minister and Foreign Minister in condemning his actions. A person with this record of behaviour should not serve in the Israeli Government. Criticism of Minister Ben-Gvir is not a defence of the flotilla. The flotilla was a deliberate provocation that sought to generate confrontation rather than contribute constructively to humanitarian outcomes. Israel was within its rights to prevent attempts to breach the maritime blockade of Gaza by a flotilla involving individuals sanctioned by the United States over alleged Hamas links and backed by organisations alleged to be operating on Hamas’ behalf. ZFA President Jeremy Leibler said Minister Ben-Gvir does not represent mainstream Israeli society nor the views of the overwhelming majority of the Australian Jewish community. “Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Foreign Minister Gideon Saar were absolutely right to publicly condemn this behaviour. When Israel’s own senior leaders describe conduct as unacceptable and disgraceful, it demonstrates just how far outside acceptable standards it was,” Mr Leibler said. “Minister Ben-Gvir’s behaviour handed Israel’s critics exactly the imagery and narrative they were seeking, while doing nothing to advance Israel’s security or diplomatic interests.” ZFA CEO Alon Cassuto said supporters of Israel should be prepared to speak honestly when Israeli public figures damage the country’s reputation and national interests. “Supporting Israel does not require defending every action of every minister,” Mr Cassuto said.

@TaliGoldsheft He's doing what he's always done. You're just upset that he's exposed himself in public. If he goes someone else just does it all behind closed doors.

Because I care about treating people humanely—and because I’m a proud Zionist—this is the final straw. Fire Ben-Gvir. If you agree, share this please.

@foleywoley The media and political class haven't been critical of any of Israel's actions when worse is routinely done to Palestinians. They are concerned that when they do something mild to white middle-class people that they'll face backlash by the electorate so perform fake concern.

I have watched Israel decapitate children, burn people alive, rape people to death, maul a disabled man to death with dogs, bomb schools, starve an entire population, and shoot children in the head, but somehow I'm supposed to believe that Ben-Gvir's actions "aren't the spirit of Israel."

Did anyone see @RichardMarlesMP on tv tonight, bragging about the equipment Australia has sent to help Israel/US attack Iran? It truly breaks my heart and spirit knowing that our government is complicit in further attack on Iran. We all know that US/Israel staged this war.

I am truly appalled at the video posted by Israeli Cabinet Minister Ben-Gvir taunting those involved in the Global Sumud Flotilla. This violates the most basic standards of respect and dignity in the way people should be treated. We are in touch with the families of a number of British nationals involved to provide them with consular support. We have demanded an explanation from the Israeli authorities and made clear their obligations to protect the rights of our citizens and all those involved.

In March, I wrote to the Prime Minister demanding a parliamentary vote on the use of UK military bases in the war on Iran. I finally received a reply during the height of the Westminster psychodrama - the perfect moment to bury the government's complicity in war crimes. [1/4]

BBC: Israeli marchers chant "from the river to the sea" - meaning all of Palestine. "We captured it. It's rightfully ours." A far-right minister plants an Israeli flag next to Al-Aqsa. In the Christian quarter, settlers attack Palestinians This is not a fringe. This is mainstream. This is Israeli society revealing itself

🚨 The US State Department just announced the ceasefire between Israel & Lebanon will be extended by 45 days. Who the hell are they kidding? There is no ceasefire. Israel has never respected one. Since the last so-called truce on March 2, & the one before it, there have been over 20,000 violations: daily strikes including north of the Litani, entire towns erased, hundreds killed. Just more Israeli bombs & occupation while Washington calls it “progress.” At this point, putting “Israel” & “ceasefire” in the same sentence is becoming an oxymoron. This is not an extension. It is a rubber stamp for continued slaughter dressed up as diplomacy & signed off by a handpicked puppet president & his prime minister. Pathetic.

Middle East Eye
Middle East Eye@MiddleEastEye·
Joe Gill, an editor at Middle East Eye, says that Keir Starmer’s collapse in popularity stems from his failure to deliver meaningful change after 14 years of Conservative rule. Despite promising stable government, Starmer instead became associated with scandals, corporate influence, and policies that failed to address Britain’s worsening cost of living crisis. Gill argues that Starmer alienated large sections of Labour’s traditional base by refusing measures such as rent controls and wealth taxes, while cutting winter fuel support and maintaining the two-child benefit cap until forced into a reversal. He also says Starmer backed Israel during the genocide in Gaza despite widespread public opposition, while overseeing what he describes as an authoritarian crackdown on protest and free speech. He says that Starmer reassured corporate donors and the right-wing press that little would fundamentally change under Labour, but in doing so lost voters looking for a break from austerity and privatisation. Promises of economic renewal, green investment and housing reform, Gill argues, failed to materialise, while firms such as Palantir Technologies gained increasing influence over public services. Gill concludes that Britain is now at a political crossroads between greater public investment and democratic renewal on one side, or what he describes as Reform UK’s “crony Thatcherism and Trump style deportation camps” on the other.
