Cave paintings, megalith alignments, lunar calendars… they were all doing geometry and arithmetic with their hands, eyes, and remarkably sharp brains long before anyone wrote down “1 + 1 = 2.” The real flex wasn’t inventing numbers. It was noticing they were already there, waiting to be discovered, like you say. We hypothesise new equations from old ones because the underlying structure of reality is ruthlessly consistent. The universe ran on maths before we showed up with our little symbols and started taking credit. Today without it? Chaos, but not quite the apocalypse you imagine. Capitalism would just revert to the world’s oldest form: haggling, favours, and trying not to get absolutely rinsed in a trade. Science would be “that bridge looks about right, reckon it’ll hold?” instead of stress calculations.
