@Smiley_Gate @MikeUntitled @Shpeshal_Nick Games on UE3 don't because we have hardware that is so much faster than what we had 20 years ago when the engine released, it's that simple, it'll be the same in 20 years when we go back to UE5 games.

@skineater2009 @CloudSt1313 It already happened with games like The Witcher 3, Assassin's Creed Unity, Far Cry 4, Watch Dogs 1 & 2... They aren't on Unreal Engine but still.

@CloudSt1313 I feel like people will start talking about UE5 titles in future about being optimized good just like they do with arkham knight and titles around that period despite being unoptimized as hell on the hardware at the time

I finally did it, replaced my last non-Logitech peripheral, the headset–new one charging now–so I'm now a 100% legit fanboy. I love the uniformity and consistency: single control app, all drivers from same vendor, features like the lightspeed receivers and game customizations.

I've been spending a lot of time in other games recently so I completely forgot how good Black Myth Wukong can look on higher settings. DLSS 4 + Path Tracing really looks fantastic here. I was very pleasantly surprised when I launched it earlier tonight to test VRAM usage.

@beyond_fps @mpr_reviews @Sebasti66855537 @gerulis20 @Charcharo I kinda agree, the game looks fine without any RT/PT thanks to the art direction, though Lumen does make the GI and Reflections look better and I think that's enough to be honest but hey, it's nice to have options I guess. I kinda hate that Reflex is locked behind FG though...

Dawnwalker system requirements have been released and it's really nice that they provide framerate targets at native resolution without any frame gen. 1440p Ultra requiring 16GB of VRAM is quite heavy though. Not a lot of games go over 12GB at 1440p, except when PT is used.

@mpr_reviews If something you can just go down a notch or two, texture quality should still be fine from what I remember from other Unreal Engine 5 games, like Silent Hill 2 Remake/f for example.

Yeah, it's going to be quite heavy, but even with all the UE5 features I'm very surprised at the 16GB VRAM requirement at 1440p. I've tested a bunch of UE5 games on the 5070 and none of them have run out of VRAM at 1440p, even with FG enabled. Maybe BMW will run out eventually at native with PT set to max, but I'll have to test that.

@mpr_reviews You can enable Reflex in Silent Hill 2 remake through the config file, it works fine, I've did this when I was playing it last year in October. I think you can also use UUU to enable the console so you can enable/disable it much easier.

So, what I suspect is that either the Reflex markers in UE5 games arent 100% accurate, or the Nvidia App isnt reading the PCL accurately in UE5 games. Without an LDAT it is then unfortunately not possible to accurately measure / estimate PCL in UE5 games as it is impossible for actual click to photon latency to be lower when using frame generation. As noted previously, all these tests were performed with identical Reflex settings. I wanted to test Silent Hill 2 as well but it doesnt seem to support Reflex without using FG.

Okay, I did a lot of additional testing, and found that this issue of Nvidia App reporting average PC latency as lower when Frame Generation is enabled is present in most UE5 games that I've tested. This will be a thread as I can only post 4 photos per post.

Same seems to be true in Borderlands 4, though not nearly to the same extent. 1440p Very High Preset, DLSS Balanced, Reflex on + Boost, around 40ms AVG PC Latency as measured by the Nvidia App Same settings with DLSS FG 3x I get reported PC Latency of around 36ms. This is in a GPU bound scenario, whereas OW2 was apparently CPU limited, though I have my theories about that.
